Role and Responsibilities 

Purpose 

Head of Docking is responsible for timely, safe and efficient docking of all Maersk own vessels globally to ensure good asset condition as well as high reliability of our fleet.  

 

Key Responsibilities 

• Be the focal point from Maersk fleet operations as well as all FMT internal and external stakeholders towards policy making, planning, execution, and service delivery of dockings of Maersk own fleet 
• Ensure safe and high-quality docking of Maersk vessels and derives maximum value from allocated budgets and cost saving potentials are harvested. 
• Maintain a detailed overview of Maersk owned fleet towards dry-docking compliance as well as regulatory changes  
• Drive and implement standardization of the dry-docking process across fleet groups in line with industry wide best practices including alignment of dry dock specifications. 
• Together with procurement, ensure Maersk vessels are docked at the most suitable and economical shipyards globally, at the most appropriate time and in the most cost-effective manner. 
• Be the lead point for deploying standard service frame agreements and material procurements including underwater Antifouling paints, in close co-ordination with central procurement teams and fleet groups 
• Liaise with panel of dry dock specialists and assistance providers to ensure that qualified personnel are identified and deployed optimally for upcoming dockings 
• Manage a team of Docking Superintendents at various locations globally for supervision of dry dockings  
• Drive various transformation initiatives including digitization of the docking process and reports  
• Constantly review dry dock process for continuous improvements 

 

Required Skills

• Marine/Mechanical Engineer / Naval arch with 10 years’ experience in Fleet Operations or shipyard
• Management qualification with project/operations/strategy will be an added advantage
• Thorough knowledge on different aspects of dry docking in line with industry standards.
• Demonstrated ability to build organizational capability, mentor technical talent, and lead change across geographically dispersed teams.
• Thorough knowledge on the various class, flag and other regulatory/statutory requirements
• Adequate expertise on various MS Office tools.
• Knowledge of ISO systems especially ISO 9001, 14001 and 18001
• Has good command over English language.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence senior leaders and external partners.
• Strong understanding of asset lifecycle management and reliability engineering.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and encourages diversity/multicultural teams, is assertive and has excellent negotiation skills
• Exposure to ERP systems and/or ship management systems will be an added advantage
