Advisor, Systems Engineering

We are seeking an experienced Backup Administrator with strong expertise in enterprise backup, recovery, protection, and backup engineering. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, administration, optimization, automation, and operational support of enterprise backup environments while ensuring compliance, security, and business continuity requirements are met.

This role requires hands-on experience with Rubrik, Dell EMC Data Domain, Avamar, NetWorker, and Infinidat InfiniBox (IBOX) platforms. The candidate will serve as both an operational SME and an engineering resource, driving backup modernization, capacity planning, performance optimization, audit readiness, and cross-functional collaboration across infrastructure and application teams.

Key Responsibilities

Backup Infrastructure Administration

Administer and support enterprise backup and recovery platforms, including:

Rubrik, Dell EMC Data Domain, Avamar

Dell EMC NetWorker & Infinidat InfiniBox (IBOX)

Monitor and manage backup environments to ensure successful backup, restore, and replication operations.

Perform troubleshooting, incident resolution, root cause analysis, and problem management activities.

Support production, disaster recovery, and business continuity requirements.

Engineering, Lifecycle Management & Optimization

Lead backup platform upgrades, migrations, patching, and lifecycle management activities.

Evaluate and recommend improvements to backup architecture and data protection strategies.

Drive engineering initiatives focused on automation, optimization, and operational efficiency.

Collaborate with vendors and infrastructure teams to address complex technical issues.

Capacity Planning & Performance Management

Monitor backup storage utilization and growth trends across all backup platforms.

Perform capacity planning and forecasting to ensure adequate storage availability.

Analyze performance metrics and optimize backup windows, replication, and recovery times.

Recovery, Resilience, Audit, Compliance & Security

Conduct restore testing and recovery validation exercises.

Support disaster recovery testing and business continuity initiatives.

Ensure backup and recovery objectives (RPO/RTO) are consistently met.

Audit, Compliance & Security

Support internal and external audits by providing required evidence and documentation.

Ensure compliance with cybersecurity, regulatory, and organizational backup policies.

Track and remediate backup-related vulnerabilities and security findings.

Maintain operational runbooks, SOPs, architecture documents, and compliance records.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

Develop automation solutions using:

Ansible, Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform (AAP)

PowerShell or Shell Scripting

Automate backup reporting, health checks, provisioning, and operational tasks.

Drive continuous improvement initiatives to reduce manual effort and increase reliability.

Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

Work closely with Storage, Server, Database, Cloud, Security, and Application teams.

Participate in change management, incident management, and problem management processes.

Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members.

Engage with business stakeholders to ensure backup and recovery requirements are met.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.

8+ years of experience supporting enterprise backup environments.

Strong expertise in Rubrik, Data Domain, Avamar, NetWorker, and Infinidat InfiniBox.

Experience supporting large-scale, mission-critical backup infrastructures.

Strong understanding of backup, recovery, replication, and disaster recovery concepts.

Experience in enterprise storage and backup capacity management.

An experienced Backup Engineer and Administrator who can effectively manage enterprise backup operations while driving engineering improvements across Rubrik, Data Domain, Avamar, NetWorker, and InfiniBox platforms. The candidate should possess strong automation capabilities, proactively manage capacity and performance, support audit and compliance initiatives, and collaborate across Storage, Database, Server, Cloud, and Security teams to ensure reliable and resilient data protection services.
