Job Description
1. JOB PURPOSEWe are looking for a responsible and technically strong Civil Site Engineer who can independently manage day-to-day site execution and ensure that work is completed as per approved drawings, BOQ, quality standards and project schedule.
The Site Engineer will be the key person responsible for coordinating contractors, labour, materials and site activities, while providing accurate daily updates to the Project Head.
The candidate should be capable of taking ownership of the site rather than waiting for instructions for every activity.
- 2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESA. Site ExecutionSupervise and execute all civil construction activities as per approved drawings and specifications.
- Plan the day's activities and allocate work to contractors, supervisors and labour.
- Ensure proper sequence of construction activities.
- Check line, level, alignment, dimensions and verticality of work.
- Supervise:
- Excavation
- PCC
- Footings
- RCC
- Reinforcement
- Shuttering/formwork
- Concreting
- Masonry/blockwork
- Plastering
- Waterproofing
- Flooring/tiling
- Painting
- External development
- Road and infrastructure works
- Ensure proper curing and construction practices.
- Identify technical/site issues and immediately report them with a proposed solution.
- B. Drawing & Technical CoordinationRead and understand architectural, structural and MEP drawings.
- Ensure the latest approved drawings are being used at site.
- Check execution against drawings before and during work.
- Identify discrepancies between drawings, BOQ and actual site conditions.
- Coordinate with Project Head/Technical Head/consultants for technical clarifications.
- Ensure no work is executed based on outdated or superseded drawings.
- C. Contractor & Labour ManagementCoordinate and supervise all contractors and subcontractors.
- Check daily manpower deployment.
- Allocate daily targets to contractors.
- Monitor contractor productivity.
- Follow up continuously for pending activities.
- Ensure contractors maintain proper housekeeping at the end of every working day.
- Report manpower shortages immediately.
- Maintain discipline and coordination among site teams.
D. Daily Planning & Progress ControlThe Site Engineer must prepare a daily work plan before starting work.
Track:

- Manpower deployed

- Material available
- Equipment required
- Work completed
- Pending work
- Reasons for delay
Maintain daily and weekly targets and ensure activities are completed within the planned timeline.
E. Daily Progress Report – DPRSubmit the DPR every day as per company format.
The DPR must include:
- Date
- Weather/site conditions
- Manpower
- Contractor-wise manpower
- Activity-wise progress
- Quantity executed
- Material received
- Material consumed
- Machinery deployed
- Concrete/RMC details
- Important photographs
- Issues/hindrances
- Material requirements
- Labour requirements
- Next day's plan
- Work completion status
No verbal-only reporting. Important site information must be documented.
F. Quality ControlEnsure work is executed with minimum rework.
Check:
- Reinforcement
- Cover
- Shuttering
- Line & level
- Concrete grade
- Slump
- Cube casting
- Curing
- Masonry
- Plaster thickness
- Waterproofing
- Flooring
- Finishing quality
Ensure required inspections are completed before proceeding to the next activity.
Immediately report any quality deviation or defective work to the Project Head.
- G. Measurement & QuantityTake daily measurements of executed work.
- Maintain activity-wise quantity records.
- Verify contractor measurements.
- Maintain records required for contractor billing.
- Identify additional/extra/variation works.
- Inform the Project Head before execution of major extra/variation work wherever approval is required.
- Coordinate with the Billing Engineer for measurements and quantities.
- H. Material ManagementCheck material received at site.
- Verify quantity and basic quality/specification.
- Coordinate with stores/purchase team regarding requirements.
- Prepare advance material requirements based on upcoming activities.
- Monitor material consumption.
- Minimize material wastage.
- Ensure proper storage of cement, steel, blocks, sand, aggregates and other materials.
- Immediately report shortage, damage or quality issues.
The Site Engineer should not wait until material is finished before raising a requirement.

Ensure machinery is properly utilized and avoid unnecessary idle time.
- J. Safety & HousekeepingEnsure workers follow site safety requirements.
- Ensure appropriate PPE is used.
- Identify unsafe working conditions.
- Immediately report serious safety concerns.
- Ensure excavation, lifting, working-at-height and concreting activities are carried out safely.
- Maintain proper site housekeeping.
- Ensure contractors clean their work area before leaving the site.

3. DAILY WORKING SYSTEMThe Site Engineer will follow the below routine:
Morning8:30–9:00 AM
- Check site conditions.
- Check manpower.
- Check material availability.
- Check machinery.
- Review today's target.
- Allocate work to contractors/labour.
- During the DayMonitor execution.
- Check quality.
- Resolve routine site issues.
- Coordinate material/machinery.
- Take measurements.
- Record progress.
- Take photographs.
EveningBefore leaving site:
- Check actual progress vs target.
- Record manpower.
- Record material consumption.
- Identify pending work.
- Prepare next day's requirement.
- Submit DPR.
4. WEEKLY RESPONSIBILITIESEvery week the Site Engineer must:
- Prepare next week's activity plan.
- Review previous week's targets.
- Report planned vs actual progress.
- Identify delays.
- Identify manpower shortages.
- Identify material requirements.
- Identify contractor performance issues.
- Prepare pending-work list.
- Prepare photographs/progress updates for management.
- Attend the weekly site/project meeting.
5. AUTHORITY & ACCOUNTABILITYThe Site Engineer is expected to take ownership of the assigned site.
He/she must:
- Take decisions on routine site execution.
- Give clear instructions to contractors for approved work.
- Escalate major technical, commercial and safety issues.
- Not wait for the Project Head for routine matters.
- Ensure commitments made by contractors are followed up.
- Escalate delays before they become critical.
Important Principle:"If there is a problem at site, don't only report the problem — report the problem + reason + proposed solution."

7. QUALIFICATIONRequired:
- Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Civil Engineering.
- Practical site execution experience.
- Good knowledge of RCC and building construction.
- Ability to read structural and architectural drawings.
- Basic knowledge of BOQ and measurements.
- Basic knowledge of MS Excel.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD will be an advantage.
ExperiencePreferred: 2–5 years of experience in residential, commercial, institutional or infrastructure construction.
Candidates with strong practical site knowledge and the ability to independently handle a site will be preferred.

11. ROLE EXPECTATIONThe ultimate objective of the Site Engineer is:
"The Project Head should not have to be physically present at site every day to know what is happening."
The Site Engineer must provide accurate information, maintain proper records, control daily execution and ensure that the site progresses according to the agreed time, quality and resource targets.
