Job Description
Job Summary We are looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Lathe Machine Fitter for our industrial machinery manufacturing workshop. The candidate will be responsible for operating conventional lathe machines, machining precision components according to drawings, fitting mechanical assemblies, and ensuring high-accuracy finish on all parts.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate manual and heavy-duty conventional lathe machines to perform operations like turning, facing, taper turning, threading, boring, and grooving.
- Perform mechanical bench fitting, component assembling, key-slot fitting, aligning, and finishing of machine sub-assemblies.
- Read and follow mechanical engineering blueprints, drawings, and job tolerances strictly.
- Mount, center, and align raw materials, jaws, chucks, cutting tools, and steady rests accurately before machining.
- Inspect finished and semi-finished parts using precision measuring instruments (Vernier caliper, micrometers, dial test indicators, depth gauges).
- Grind, shape, and maintain HSS/carbide cutting bits, tools, and drills as per job requirements.
- Conduct daily cleaning, chip removal, oiling, and basic preventive maintenance of assigned lathe machines.
- Minimize machining rework, control metal scrap, and adhere to strict shop-floor safety norms (PPE, eye protection, clean work area).
Required Skills
- Strong practical expertise in conventional lathe machine operation and mechanical bench fitting.
- Ability to cut various thread profiles (Metric, BSW, Acme) and maintain tight micron/millimeter tolerances.
- Proficiency in handling measurement tools (Vernier, outside/inside micrometers, bore gauges).
- Understanding of material properties (Mild Steel, EN series, Cast Iron, Brass, Stainless Steel).
- Manual dexterity, attention to detail, and sound machine-shop safety practices.
Eligibility Criteria
- ITI / Vocational Certificate in Fitter, Turner, or Machinist trade.
- 1 to 6 years of hands-on experience as a Lathe Machine Fitter in an engineering workshop or machinery manufacturing unit.
- Ability to understand instructions and communicate in Gujarati and Hindi and English.
