Role PurposeThe Project Head – Civil will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, monitoring, and successful completion of civil construction projects within the approved scope, budget, quality standards, and timelines. The role requires strong leadership, project management, technical expertise, and coordination skills to ensure smooth project delivery from inception through handover.
- Key Responsibilities1. Project Planning & ExecutionLead the end-to-end execution of civil construction projects.
- Develop project execution plans, schedules, milestones, and resource requirements.
- Ensure projects are delivered within approved timelines, budgets, and contractual requirements.
- Monitor progress against the baseline schedule and take corrective actions where required.
- Identify project risks, constraints, and critical activities and develop mitigation plans.
- 2. Site & Construction ManagementOversee all civil construction activities including excavation, foundations, RCC, structural works, masonry, finishing, infrastructure, and external development.
- Ensure effective utilization of manpower, materials, machinery, and other resources.
- Review construction methodologies and ensure adherence to approved drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate with site teams to resolve technical and execution-related issues.
- Ensure proper housekeeping, site organization, and efficient workflow.
- 3. Design & Technical CoordinationCoordinate with architects, structural consultants, MEP teams, PMC, contractors, and other stakeholders.
- Review drawings, specifications, BOQs, method statements, and technical submissions.
- Ensure timely resolution of design discrepancies, RFIs, and technical queries.
- Coordinate design changes and assess their impact on cost and schedule.
- 4. Cost & Commercial ManagementMonitor project expenditure against the approved budget.
- Control wastage and optimize utilization of materials and resources.
- Review contractor bills, measurements, variations, and additional works.
- Support procurement and commercial teams in vendor/contractor negotiations.
- Identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising quality or safety.
- 5. Quality ManagementEnsure compliance with approved quality standards, specifications, drawings, and applicable codes.
- Establish and monitor project quality control procedures.
- Review inspection reports, test results, NCRs, and corrective actions.
- Ensure construction materials and workmanship meet required standards.
- Drive continuous improvement in construction quality and project processes.
- 6. Safety & ComplianceEnsure strict compliance with all applicable safety regulations and organizational EHS policies.
- Promote a strong safety culture across the project.
- Monitor safety performance and ensure timely closure of observations and incidents.
- Ensure statutory approvals, permits, inspections, and regulatory requirements are complied with.
- 7. Contractor & Vendor ManagementManage and coordinate civil contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and suppliers.
- Monitor contractor performance against agreed scope, quality, cost, and schedule.
- Conduct regular progress review meetings.
- Resolve contractual and execution-related issues in coordination with the commercial team.
- 8. Team LeadershipLead and mentor the project management and site execution teams.
- Define responsibilities and ensure accountability across functions.
- Review team performance and identify training/development requirements.
- Foster effective communication and collaboration among all project stakeholders.
- 9. Reporting & Stakeholder ManagementPrepare and present periodic project status reports to senior management.
- Track key project KPIs including progress, cost, quality, safety, productivity, and resource utilization.
- Escalate critical issues and delays with appropriate recovery plans.
- Maintain effective communication with clients, consultants, authorities, and internal stakeholders.
- 10. Project Handover & ClosureEnsure completion of all works as per approved scope and specifications.
- Coordinate inspections, snag rectification, testing, commissioning support, and final handover.
- Ensure timely completion of as-built drawings, O&M documentation, warranties, and other project close-out documents.
- Conduct project closure reviews and capture lessons learned.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Project completion within approved schedule.
- Project cost/budget adherence.
- Quality and reduction in rework/NCRs.
- Safety performance and incident-free execution.
- Contractor and vendor performance.
- Resource and productivity optimization.
- Timely resolution of technical and commercial issues.
- Client/stakeholder satisfaction.
- Successful project handover and closure.
- Educational QualificationBachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) from a recognized institution.
- M.Tech / MBA / Project Management qualification will be an added advantage.
- Experience 8–10+ years of relevant experience in civil construction/project management.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale residential, commercial, industrial, infrastructure, or other major civil projects.
- Experience in handling multiple contractors, consultants, and large project teams.
- Strong experience in project planning, execution, cost control, quality, safety, and stakeholder management.
- Technical & Functional SkillsStrong knowledge of civil construction methodologies and practices.
- Excellent understanding of drawings, BOQs, specifications, contracts, and construction standards.
- Strong project planning and scheduling skills.
- Proficiency in MS Project / Primavera P6 and MS Office.
- Knowledge of relevant IS codes, statutory requirements, and construction regulations.
- Strong cost, quantity, and resource management capabilities.
- Good understanding of QA/QC and EHS systems.
