Illustrator & Graphic Designer

We are looking for an Illustrator / Graphic Designer to join our team. The role will involve creating illustrations and graphic design assets for children’s books, as well as supporting the visual and production requirements of the publishing team.

The candidate will work closely with the editorial and creative teams across different stages of book development, from initial concepts and illustrations to final print-ready artwork.

Zhagaram Publishing House is a Tamil children’s book publisher focused on creating original, engaging and high-quality books for young readers. We publish illustrated books across different formats, with a focus on strong visual storytelling and thoughtful design.

Responsibilities

• Create illustrations for children’s books, including characters, scenes, objects and backgrounds.
• Develop character designs and visual concepts based on story briefs.
• Design book covers, page elements and other visual assets.
• Create and edit digital artwork using Adobe Photoshop and other relevant design software.
• Work on page layouts, compositions and graphic elements for books.
• Adapt existing artwork and designs for different formats and purposes.
• Coordinate with freelance illustrators, designers and other members of the creative team when required.

Requirements

• Strong illustration and graphic design skills.
• Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop.
• Working knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and/or InDesign.
• Good understanding of colour, composition, typography and visual hierarchy.
• Ability to create illustrations and designs appropriate for children’s content
• Good attention to detail, particularly when preparing files for print.
