Solution Architect – Telecommunications

Role Overview

We are looking for an experienced Solution Architect to support a large telecommunications client. The Solution Architect will be responsible for translating business and technology requirements into robust, scalable and cost-effective end-to-end solutions across the telecom technology landscape.

The role will work closely with customer stakeholders, enterprise and domain architects, product owners, business analysts, engineering teams, infrastructure/cloud teams, security teams, third-party vendors and service delivery teams to ensure solutions are technically sound, aligned with architectural standards and successfully delivered into production.

The successful candidate should have strong experience in enterprise application architecture, system integration and telecommunications environments, with the ability to take ownership of a solution from initial requirements and architecture through design, delivery and transition into operations.

Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture & Design

• Own the end-to-end solution architecture for new initiatives, enhancements and transformation programs.
• Translate business, functional and non-functional requirements into scalable and maintainable technical solutions.
• Develop high-level and detailed solution designs covering applications, integrations, APIs, data flows, infrastructure/cloud, security and operational considerations.
• Define solution architecture diagrams, integration patterns, interface designs and technology choices.
• Ensure solutions align with the customer's enterprise architecture principles, technology strategy, security standards and roadmap.
• Assess solution options and provide recommendations based on functionality, complexity, cost, scalability, performance, resilience and supportability.
• Identify technical dependencies, constraints, assumptions and architectural risks early in the delivery lifecycle.

Telecom & Systems Integration

• Architect solutions across a complex telecom ecosystem involving BSS/OSS, CRM, Order Management, Billing, Product Catalogue, Provisioning, Service Assurance and Digital platforms.
• Design integrations between customer-facing applications, middleware/integration platforms, backend systems and external/third-party services.
• Define appropriate API, event-driven, messaging and batch integration patterns.
• Understand end-to-end telecom customer and service journeys such as Lead-to-Order, Order-to-Activate, Usage-to-Bill and Trouble-to-Resolve.
• Ensure architecture supports high availability, performance, scalability, resilience and disaster recovery requirements.

Delivery & Technical Governance

• Provide architecture leadership throughout the complete delivery lifecycle from requirements and design through development, testing, deployment and production transition.
• Review detailed technical designs produced by development, integration, infrastructure and vendor teams.
• Conduct architecture and design reviews and ensure adherence to agreed standards and design principles.
• Work closely with engineering teams to resolve complex technical and integration issues.
• Support estimation, technical planning and identification of delivery dependencies.
• Ensure non-functional requirements including performance, availability, security, observability, maintainability and recoverability are incorporated into the solution.
• Maintain architecture artefacts, design documentation, decision records and technical standards.

Required Experience & Skills

• Typically, 10+ years of IT experience, with significant experience in Solution Architecture, Technical Architecture or a similar senior technical role.
• Strong experience designing and delivering enterprise-scale, integrated solutions.
• Experience within the Telecommunications industry, preferably supporting a Tier-1 telecom operator.
• Good understanding of telecom BSS/OSS architecture and business processes.
• Strong understanding of:

• Order Management and Fulfilment
• Billing and Charging
• Product Catalogue
• Provisioning and Activation
• Service Assurance
• Digital and Customer Experience platforms
• Strong experience with system integration architecture, including REST APIs, microservices, event-driven architecture, messaging and middleware/integration platforms.
• Good understanding of cloud and hybrid architecture, preferably involving AWS.
• Understanding databases, data architecture and integration with relational and NoSQL platforms.
• Strong understanding of enterprise security principles including authentication, authorization, encryption, API security and data protection.
• Experience defining and validating non-functional requirements including performance, availability, scalability, resilience and disaster recovery.
• Experience working in Agile and DevOps delivery environments.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and technical decision-making capabilities.
• Excellent stakeholder management, communication and presentation skills.
• Ability to work effectively across customer, offshore/onshore delivery teams and multiple technology vendors.
