Payables Tech owns platforms that make this work: invoice management, payable processing, vendor experience, process automation, fraud detection, and the data services underneath it all.
Our systems move payment volumes that would rank among the largest national economies by GDP. The job is changing rapidly. AI is transforming finance operations, automating routine transactional work so teams can focus on higher-judgment problems. Our vendors are deploying AI-enabled tools to manage payables, submit disputes, and reconcile accounts. Static payment rules are being replaced by ML-driven risk models. Our engineering teams are organizing for AI-native velocity, with small pods of subject matter experts and engineers orchestrating AI-generated features in tight loops. Our vision requires a leader who will drive these transformations, not ride them.

We are looking for a leader responsible for core Amazon Accounts Payable (AP) platforms., leading a 150-person engineering organization. This leader will be part of FinAuto's senior leadership team and own invoice ingestion and validation, payable computation and disposition, payee data management, risk and fraud detection, and the APIs and agent surfaces that vendors and internal customers use to interact with these systems.


Key job responsibilities
- Own the technical strategy and multi-year roadmap for Amazon's AP platforms, feeding directly into FinAuto's 3-year strategy
- Lead a distributed engineering organization of 150
- Deliver ambitious new capabilities: agentic process automation for defect resolution, touchless document processing, ML-based payment risk scoring, and new modes of vendor interaction and self-service
- Drive engineering transformation: pioneer AI-native development practices, organize around small outcome-focused, cross-functional teams, and redefine what great engineering looks like for your organization
- Maintain operational excellence for payment-critical systems requiring exacting precision, high availability, and regulatory compliance across dozens of countries
- Build partnerships with Finance Operations, Controllership, Product, and business line leaders, as well as peer organizations up and downstream
- Independently represent the organization with VP-level stakeholders daily

A day in the life
This role leads simultaneous transformation in what gets built (autonomous payments, agentic automation, agent-to-agent commerce), how it gets built (AI-native engineering, small empowered pods), and who builds it. Daily work involves making bold technical bets on distributed systems, navigating change across hundreds of engineers, and demonstrating what's possible — not mandating. You operate with a startup mindset: reducing complexity, driving standards that accelerate building, and moving faster than customers expect. Requires deep technical depth, organizational vision, and clear written communication.

FinAuto is one of Amazon's largest fintech organizations. We work with every part of Amazon to capture, compute, transact, and report financial events. Payables Tech owns the platforms that pay Amazon's vendors, from the world's largest suppliers to individual app developers, accurately and on time, across every business and geography.
We process billions of financial events annually through systems that must be precise, fast, and resilient. We are in the middle of a transformation driven by AI on two fronts: what our platforms do and how we build them.

Basic Qualifications

- Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering or related field
- 12+ years of increasing responsibility leading large engineering teams
- Strong knowledge of architecting and operating distributed systems at massive scale
- Multidisciplinary experience across software development, product management, program management, and quality automation
- Experience with domain solutions involving risks that require exacting precision, high availability, and low latency

Preferred Qualifications

- 10+ years leading engineering organizations of 150+ people while remaining close to critical technical decisions
- 5+ years interacting regularly with senior level executives
- Experience applying AI/ML to production business processes at scale (production, not pilots)
- Experience leading teams through transitions to AI-driven development practices
- Background in financial systems, payments, or fintech
- Experience building multi-tenant platforms that serve as enabling infrastructure for multiple business lines
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams through influence rather than authority
- Exceptional written communication
