Semantic Lead – Power BI & Microsoft Fabric

Position Summary

The Semantic Lead is responsible for defining and governing the enterprise semantic layer strategy for reporting and analytics across Snowflake and Microsoft Fabric. This role provides technical leadership, establishes modeling standards, and ensures consistent KPI definitions and business metrics across the organization.

Key Responsibilities

Semantic Architecture & Governance

• Define enterprise semantic layer architecture and standards.
• Establish KPI, metric, and business glossary governance.
• Design reporting and analytics strategies leveraging Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
• Review and approve semantic model designs created by developers.
• Ensure adherence to dimensional modeling best practices.

Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with Business Owners, Product Owners, Data Architects, and Leadership teams.
• Lead requirements workshops and reporting design discussions.
• Resolve conflicts around business metric definitions and reporting standards.
• Drive reporting modernization initiatives.

Technical Leadership

• Define standards for:
• Semantic Models
• Fabric Lakehouses
• DAX Development
• Security Models
• Dataset Management
• Deployment Pipelines
• Lead architecture reviews and technical design sessions.
• Mentor Semantic Developers and BI developers.
• Support estimation and sprint planning activities.

Performance & Optimization

• Govern semantic model performance and scalability.
• Review dataset refresh strategies and Direct Lake implementations.
• Define best practices for large-scale enterprise reporting.
