Senior Silicon Engineer - Front -End CAD

As Microsoft's cloud business continues to accelerate, the ability to deliver new silicon innovations and infrastructure at scale, with quality, speed, and cost efficiency, has never been more critical. Within SCHIE, the Methodology, Infrastructure & Labs Engineering (MILE) organization plays a pivotal role in enabling Microsoft's silicon strategy. MILE is responsible for end-to-end silicon design methodologies, EDA/CAD ecosystems, and the underlying compute infrastructure that powers the development of Microsoft's custom silicon portfolio - the Azure Cobalt and Azure Maia processors.
We are seeking a Silicon Front-End (FE) CAD Software Engineer to develop, maintain, and support CAD flows and methodologies, as well as dashboards, CAD indicators, and automation used across Microsoft's front-end silicon design ecosystem. The role requires Python software-development skills, hands-on experience building and testing end-to-end, system-level software, and a solid understanding of front-end CAD flows and methodologies.

Responsibilities
Develop, maintain, and support Frontend CAD flows and methodologies.
Design, develop, and maintain CAD software, utilities, and automation for FE flows using Python, following disciplined software-engineering practices.
Build and maintain dashboards and CAD indicators/metrics that provide visibility into flow health, quality, runtime, and design productivity.
Develop and maintain regression and continuous-integration frameworks to evaluate flow stability, functionality, runtime, and quality of results.
Analyse results and identify functional, runtime, resource, or quality regressions across tool and flow releases.
Debug complex issues across CAD software, flows, scripts, and compute/cloud environments.
Automate repetitive CAD activities and develop scalable, system-level utilities and applications, primarily in Python.
Use Git-based version control and code-review practices to manage CAD flow development and releases.
Collaborate with design, verification, methodology, and CAD engineers, and EDA vendors, to collect requirements and improve design productivity.
Maintain high-quality documentation for software and flow releases, regression results, known issues, and methodology changes.
Continuously improve flow reliability, scalability, automation, and turnaround time.
Using AI to automate daily tasks and implementing AI based workflows
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
At least 6 years of hands-on experience developing and supporting software, automation, or CAD flows and methodologies, with proficiency in Python.
Hands-on experience with end-to-end, Python-based, system-level development projects, including testing of complex systems.
Preferred Qualifications:
MS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent work experience.
4+ years of relevant experience developing and maintaining FE CAD flows, methodologies, automation, or infrastructure software.
Experience building dashboards, CAD indicators/metrics, and reporting or analytics solutions.
Familiarity with front-end design and verification flows and methodologies (RTL, DV, DFT, lint, CDC/RDC, IP integration, design handoff/release).
Experience with FE CAD infrastructure - build/run/release flows, continuous integration (CI/CD), flow orchestration, design data management, and version control; object-oriented programming and software-development practices; exposure to Azure cloud infrastructure and DevOps.
Hands-on experience developing AI-based workflows and automation.
Self-motivation, Growth mindset, Ownership mindset, attention to detail, and good written, verbal, and presentation skills are critical to success in this role

Microsoft Cloud Background Check. This position is required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
