JOB TITLE - Credit underwriter 

Job summary 

We are seeking a detail-oriented Credit Underwriter to join our financial team. In this role, you will evaluate creditworthiness and make informed lending decisions based on a thorough analysis of financial data. Your expertise will help ensure responsible lending practices and contribute to the overall success of our organisation.

Key Responsibilities 

• Review and analyse loan applications, financial statements, credit reports, and other relevant documents.
• Assess the creditworthiness of individuals and businesses by evaluating their financial history and current financial situation.
• Make recommendations for loan approvals, conditions, or denials based on established underwriting guidelines.
• Collaborate with loan officers and other team members to gather necessary documentation and provide insights on credit decisions.
• Stay updated on industry regulations, lending policies, and best practices to ensure compliance.
• Prepare detailed reports and documentation of underwriting decisions for internal and external review.
• Identify potential risks and communicate findings to management as necessary.
• Participate in training and professional development to enhance underwriting skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Proven experience as a credit underwriter or in a similar role within the financial services industry.
• Strong understanding of credit analysis, risk assessment, and lending practices.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency in using underwriting software and financial analysis tools.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Skills

• Certification in credit underwriting (e.g., CUA, CMB) is a plus.
• Familiarity with relevant regulatory requirements and compliance standards.
