About your Team

The Azure Platform Engineering team designs, builds and operates Fidelity's enterprise Azure platform, providing secure, automated and self-service cloud capabilities for engineering teams around the world. The team works across Azure infrastructure, networking, security, AI services, API Management, developer platforms and automation, using modern engineering practices such as Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, CI/CD and AI-assisted software development. You will become part of a collaborative global engineering team where learning, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement are part of everyday work.

 

About your Role

As a Cloud Operations Engineer, you will help build, support and improve Azure platform services used across Fidelity.

Working alongside experienced platform engineers, you will contribute to automation, operational support and engineering initiatives that improve the reliability, security and usability of the Azure platform.

 

You will develop your cloud engineering skills through hands-on experience with Azure, Terraform, Python, GitHub Actions and AI-assisted engineering tools whilst supporting production cloud services and helping engineering teams adopt the platform successfully.

About You

You enjoy learning new technologies and solving technical problems. You have a passion for automation and enjoy writing code to improve operational efficiency. You are comfortable working collaboratively within an Agile engineering team and are keen to develop your cloud engineering capabilities. You are curious about emerging technologies, particularly AI, and enjoy exploring how they can improve engineering productivity and software delivery.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Azure Platform Engineering

  • Support the engineering and operation of Azure platform services.
  • Assist in developing Infrastructure as Code using Terraform.
  • Develop automation using Python and PowerShell.
  • Contribute to GitHub repositories and GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines.
  • Participate in code reviews and collaborative software development.
  • Assist with Azure platform enhancements and engineering initiatives.

 

Operational Support

  • Support day-to-day Azure platform operations.
  • Investigate incidents and assist with problem resolution.
  • Monitor Azure platform services and respond to operational alerts.
  • Assist with platform maintenance and service improvements.
  • Contribute to operational documentation and support procedures.

 

Cloud Networking & Security

  • Support Azure networking services including Virtual WAN, Firewall, Private Endpoints, DNS and Application Gateway.
  • Assist with implementing Azure Policy, RBAC and governance controls.
  • Learn and apply secure engineering practices across platform services.

 

Automation & AI

  • Use Terraform and Python to automate operational tasks.
  • Build and maintain GitHub Actions pipelines.
  • Use GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT to improve productivity.
  • Explore Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, AI Agents and Model Context Protocol (MCP) technologies.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive operational activities using AI.

 

Knowledge & Collaboration

  • Maintain technical documentation and knowledge articles.
  • Share knowledge with colleagues and contribute to Inner Source initiatives.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and engineering planning sessions.
  • Continuously improve engineering practices through learning and collaboration.

 

Experience and Qualifications

 

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

  • Good understanding of Microsoft Azure fundamentals.
  • Experience using Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code tools.
  • Experience writing Python or PowerShell scripts.
  • Familiarity with GitHub, Git version control and GitHub Actions.
  • Basic understanding of CI/CD concepts.
  • Good troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • A passion for cloud engineering and automation.

 

AI & Modern Engineering

  • Experience using GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT or similar AI tools.
  • Interest in AI-assisted software development and engineering productivity.
  • Curiosity about Azure AI Foundry, Azure OpenAI, MCP and Agentic AI.
  • Willingness to adopt AI responsibly to improve engineering outcomes.

 

Desirable Experience

  • Azure Administrator or Azure Fundamentals certification.
  • Exposure to Azure Networking.
  • Azure Monitor and Log Analytics.
  • Azure API Management.
  • Azure Application Gateway.
  • Linux administration.
  • Agile software delivery.
  • Financial Services experience.
