Roles and Responsibilities of an ACCONTANT

Day-to-Day Bookkeeping & Accounting:

Maintain accurate ledgers for daily sales, purchases, operating expenses, and supplier payments using software like Tally or Zoho Books

Inventory & Gold Stock Accounting:

Track gold and ornament stock by gross weight, net weight, and purity (such as 22K/916 or 18K). Conduct periodic physical stock verifications and reconcile them with system records

Specialized Pricing & Costing:

Calculate and verify making charges, stone values, wastage allowances, and daily market-rate revaluations. Calculating taxes and submitting tax returns to comply with the law

Billing & Invoice Compliance:

Review daily billing transactions to ensure accurate pricing, hallmarking details, and adherence to store and legal standards. Suggesting financial policies and procedures based on the overall financial status of the organisation

Old Gold & Exchange Settlements:

Record and reconcile transactions when customers exchange old gold or sell scrap jewellery for new ornaments. Maintain the privacy of financial information, and when necessary, backup databases

Compliance (GST & TDS):

File indirect and direct tax returns, handle 3% GST on ornament sales, and manage Input Tax Credit (ITC) tracking on making charges and job-work expenses.

Metal Loan (GML) & Cash Flow Management:

Track Gold Metal Loans, monitor daily cash flow, and reconcile bank statements, cash drawers, and merchant card terminals.

Financial Reporting & Audits:

 Prepare periodic MIS reports, inventory valuation summaries, profit-and-loss statements, and coordinate with external auditors or Chartered Accountants (CAs). Auditing financial documents to ensure they are accurate and maintaining the confidentiality of the financial data Managing the company’s accounts to ensure on-time payment and overseeing the software system for financial needs

Rectify any anomalies or inconsistencies they discover in the company’s financial document

Assess accounting software applications and accounting control procedures

Make and evaluate the organisation’s year-end financial accounts Compose budget forecasts
