Restaurant Captain

Poetry by Love & Cheesecake is an all-day café and restaurant from the Love & Cheesecake family. The menu is eggless and the service is warm and unhurried. Guests come for the food, but they remember how they were looked after. As Captain, you set that tone on the floor.

You run your section during service. You lead the stewards, look after every guest from greeting to farewell, and make sure the food, the pace and the details meet the Poetry standard. When something goes wrong, you fix it on the spot.

Key Responsibilities

Guest experience

• Greet and seat guests warmly, and know regulars by name and preference
• Present the menu with confidence, including signature dishes, desserts, beverages and the eggless positioning
• Make informed recommendations and pairings, and upsell naturally without pushing
• Handle feedback and complaints calmly, resolve them quickly, and escalate to the Manager when needed

Floor leadership

• Brief stewards before service on specials, 86'd items, reservations and VIPs
• Assign tables and stations, and keep service pace and table turns on track
• Coach stewards on the floor in real time (posture, language, anticipation of needs)
• Step in during rushes to run food, clear tables or support the bar and kitchen

Order and coordination

• Take orders accurately on the POS, including allergens, dietary notes and special requests
• Coordinate with the kitchen and bar on timing, and confirm that dishes leave the pass correct and presentable
• Make sure bills are accurate and payments are handled correctly, and close out tables properly

Standards and operations

• Maintain grooming, hygiene and food safety standards (FSSAI-compliant practices)
• Make sure the section is set, stocked and reset to standard before, during and after service
• Report maintenance issues, stock shortages and recurring guest feedback to the Manager
• Follow cash, billing and inventory SOPs, and flag discrepancies
• Requirements3-5 years of restaurant or café service experience, with a minimum of 1 year in a Captain or Senior Steward role
• Strong menu knowledge and the ability to explain dishes, ingredients and allergens clearly
• Fluent in English and Hindi; Marathi is a plus
• Comfortable with POS systems and basic billing
• Presentable, composed under pressure, and able to lead a team of 3-6 stewards
• Flexible with shifts, weekends and holidays
• Hotel management diploma preferred but not mandatory
