Backend Developer

We're hiring a Graduate Spring Boot Developer to join our engineering team and help build the Java services behind our products. You'll write production code from your first weeks, paired with experienced engineers who will review your work and help you grow.

• Key responsibilitiesDesign, build and maintain RESTful APIs and microservices using Java and Spring Boot.
• Work with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL) through Spring Data JPA and Hibernate.
• Write unit and integration tests with JUnit and Mockito, and keep code coverage healthy.
• Take part in code reviews, giving and receiving feedback constructively.
• Debug and fix issues across development, test and production environments.
• Document APIs (e.g. OpenAPI/Swagger) and the services you build.
• Work in an Agile team: join stand-ups, sprint planning and retrospectives.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, QA and product owners to deliver features end to end.

Essential Requirements

• A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field (completed or due this year), or equivalent practical experience such as a bootcamp or apprenticeship.
• Solid grasp of core Java: OOP, collections, exceptions, generics and streams.
• Hands-on experience with Spring Boot from university, personal or internship projects.
• Understanding of REST principles, HTTP and JSON.
• Working knowledge of SQL and relational database design.
• Familiarity with Git and a build tool such as Maven or Gradle.
• Clear communication and a willingness to ask questions and learn quickly.

Desirable skills

None of these are required; we'll help you learn them on the job.

• Spring Security, OAuth2 or JWT-based authentication.
• Microservice patterns and messaging with Kafka or RabbitMQ.
• Docker, Kubernetes or a cloud platform (AWS, Azure or GCP).
• NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Redis.
