Job Description

Job Purpose:The VAT Compliance Accountant is responsible for preparing accurate and timely VAT returns and related compliance documentation for review and approval by the tax team. The role ensures that VAT reporting is completed in line with applicable legislation, internal controls, and filing deadlines.This is a hands-on compliance role focused on data preparation, reconciliation, issue identification, and supporting documentation. Also SAFT compliance will be part of the responsibilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :

• Gather, review, and organize VAT-related data from ERP/accounting systems
• Prepare VAT returns and related filings across Europe in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner.
• Review transactions for VAT treatment consistency and compliance issues
• Identify missing documentation, unusual entries, and potential errors
• Prepare supporting workpapers and clear audit trails for review
• Highlight exceptions, adjustments, and open items requiring internal follow-up
• Monitor filing deadlines and support timely completion of compliance deliverables
• Monitor VAT payment processes to ensure with all relevant parties that payments are approved and made on time. Follow up on the timely receipt and allocation of VAT refunds
• Perform VAT account reconciliations and investigate discrepancies, ensuring timely resolution.
• Collaborate with Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Finance, and other internal stakeholders.
• Support VAT audits, tax authority queries, and foreign VAT reclaim processes.
• Assist with VAT-related projects, including SAP testing, process improvements, and system implementation support.
• Support SAF-T and other digital reporting activities across relevant European jurisdictions.

Standard Job Description :

• Minimum 5 years of experience in European VAT compliance, gained either in a Big 4 environment or within an international company.
• Strong knowledge of SAP, with practical hands-on experience in VAT, finance, or compliance-related processes.
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
• Accounting knowledge is considered an advantage.
• Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal; knowledge of an additional European language is a plus.
• Analytical and detail-oriented, with a proactive and solution-focused approach to problem-solving.
• Strong relationship-building skills, with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Culturally aware, with experience working in diverse international and cross-functional teams.
• Self-motivated, hands-on, and eager to learn, with the ability to adapt in a dynamic and changing environment.
