Job Description

  • Reading drawings: Dimensions, tolerances, and symbols
  • G-code and M-code basics: G00, G01, G02/G03, M03, M05, M30, and what feed and spindle speed mean
  • Coordinate system: X, Y, Z axes, work offsets (G54 etc.), and tool offsets
  • Cutting tools: Types of cutters (end mill, drill, V-bit, compression bit), and when to use each
  • Speeds and feeds: How to set spindle RPM and feed rate for the material, such as wood, MDF, plywood, aluminium, or steel
  • Material knowledge: How each material behaves when cut, such as burning, chipping, or tearing
  • Work holding: Clamping, vacuum holding, fixtures, and tabs for small parts
  • Measuring tools: Vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, and tape
  • Controller use: Fanuc, Siemens, Syntec, Mach3, or whatever controller your machine has
  • Alarms and troubleshooting: Common alarms, limit switches, and homing errors
  • Safety: Emergency stop, dust extraction, PPE, and never reaching into the machine while it runs
  • Basic maintenance: Lubrication, cleaning, and checking the spindle, air, and coolant
