Design Engineer

Job Title: Design Engineer (Assistant), Mechanical

Location: Surat (moving to Devam Textile Park, Maroli)

Reports to: Senior Design Engineer

Works closely with: Design Engineer, production team, Odoo coordination team

Purpose of the role

Support the design team so that drawings are accurate, released on time and follow the standard system. You will take the routine drawing and data-entry load off the senior design engineers so they can focus on new products and critical designs.

Key responsibilities

1. Prepare standard drawing sets and detailed part drawings under guidance from the senior design engineers.
2. Follow the company drawing numbering system and revision control (R0, R1, R2).
3. Update drawings in the four fixed release batches tied to the fabrication sequence.
4. Help with BOM entry for the software-generated BOM.
5. Check existing standard parts before drawing anything new, so we do not redraw what already exists.
6. Keep the drawing library organised, with the right file in the right folder.
7. Update Odoo with drawing status at each stage.
8. Take production queries on drawings and escalate unclear ones to the senior design engineer.
9. Support ITME product work (layouts, detailing, sheet metal and fabrication drawings) as assigned.

Qualifications

• Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering
• 1–3 years of experience in machine design or fabrication drawing (freshers with strong skills can be considered)

Skills required

• AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks, with good 2D detailing
• Sheet metal, welding and fabrication drawing basics
• Basic GD&T and tolerances
• Comfortable with Excel
• Clear, careful and willing to follow a process

Good to have

• Experience in textile machinery, or any heavy fabrication
• Odoo or other ERP exposure

What success looks like (first 6 months)

• Drawings go to production with minimal rework
• Zero repeated drawings of existing standard items
• Senior design engineers can hand over routine work with confidence
