Job Description
Job Summary
The PET-CT Medical Scribe works in tandem with the Radiologist or Nuclear Medicine Physician. The primary responsibility is to listen to the physician as they review scans in real time and immediately type the complex diagnostic findings, impressions, and structural measurements directly into the Radiology Information System (RIS) or Electronic Health Record (EHR).
Key Responsibilities
- Listen live to the physician during scan interpretations and type detailed PET-CT reports, including indications, radiotracer uptake metrics (SUVmax), anatomical findings, and diagnostic impressions.
- Document precise tumor measurements, comparative data from prior scans, and physiological distributions of radiopharmaceuticals.
- Format and structure reports rapidly to ensure swift turnaround times for critical or urgent oncology findings.
- Review typed reports against the doctor's real-time statements to eliminate discrepancies in laterality (left vs. right) or anatomical positioning.
- Route finalized documentation swiftly to the reading physician for digital sign-off and subsequent distribution to referring oncologists.
- Adhere strictly to HIPAA guidelines and data safety protocols regarding sensitive patient cancer data.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Demonstrated familiarity with Radiology and Nuclear Medicine terminology (e.g., FDG uptake, metastasis, lymphadenopathy, staging systems).
- Exceptional active listening skills to keep up with rapid-fire dictation during high-volume scanning schedules.
- Fast and accurate typing capabilities (minimum 65-75 WPM) with extreme attention to detail.
- Strong computer proficiency, including comfort navigating Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).
- Ability to remain focused and precise during prolonged periods at a viewing station.
- Pre-med, biomedical engineering, or radiologic technology students/graduates are highly preferred.
