Job Description
- Key responsibilities
- Line up material for the shift: check tankers, drums and tank stock, and arrange loading and unloading with stores
- Charge material into reactors, stills and columns as per the batch plan; check quantities and record them
- Run treatment of the material before and during distillation: settling, decanting, layer separation, neutralisation, filtration or drying as required
- Take samples at each stage (raw, treated, in-process, final cuts) and send them to the QC chemist with proper labels
- Act on QC results: change cuts, re-treat or hold material as advised
- Run all ground-floor work: transfers between tanks, reactors and drums, pump and valve line-ups, filling and sealing finished drums
- Lead operators and helpers on the shift, allocate work and check it is done safely
- Raise work permits and maintenance requests; confirm jobs are closed before restart
- Keep the floor clean and drums and tanks labelled; control spills and leaks
- Enforce PPE, earthing, no-smoking and solvent handling rules
- Hand over the shift with a written report: material charged, treated, transferred, samples sent, pending jobs
- Skills
- Practical knowledge of solvent handling, transfers and distillation operations
- Basic understanding of material treatment and sampling
- Able to manage operators, helpers and contract labour
- Willing to work rotating shifts, including nights
- Marathi/Hindi; basic English for log sheets
