1. Job SummaryWe are looking for an experienced and result-oriented FMCG Sourcing Merchandiser to manage product sourcing, vendor development, assortment planning, pricing negotiations, and merchandising activities for our retail business. The candidate will be responsible for identifying reliable suppliers, sourcing quality products at competitive prices, maintaining optimum inventory levels, and ensuring timely product availability across stores.

2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. FMCG Product Sourcing & Vendor Development

• Identify, evaluate, and onboard vendors, manufacturers, distributors, and suppliers for FMCG products.
• Develop a strong vendor network across food, beverages, staples, personal care, home care, packaged foods, and other FMCG categories.
• Source products at competitive rates while maintaining quality and profitability.
• Negotiate purchase prices, margins, credit periods, schemes, discounts, and payment terms.
• Develop alternative suppliers to ensure uninterrupted product availability.

B. Buying & Merchandising

• Plan product assortment based on customer demand, sales trends, store requirements, and market opportunities.
• Coordinate with buying, category management, warehouse, and store operations teams.
• Identify fast-moving, slow-moving, and high-potential products.
• Ensure the right product mix, competitive pricing, and availability across retail outlets.
• Monitor new product launches, competitor assortments, and market trends.

C. Purchase Planning & Inventory Management

• Analyse sales reports, stock levels, stock cover, and replenishment requirements.
• Prepare purchase orders based on demand forecasts and inventory requirements.
• Coordinate with vendors for order confirmation, dispatch schedules, and timely deliveries.
• Monitor stock ageing, expiry dates, damaged goods, and near-expiry inventory.
• Follow FIFO/FEFO practices, as applicable, and minimise stock-outs and excess inventory.

D. Commercial & Margin Management

• Evaluate vendor quotations and conduct price comparisons.
• Ensure targeted gross margins and category profitability.
• Identify cost-saving opportunities through bulk buying, direct sourcing, and improved commercial terms.
• Monitor schemes, promotional support, trade discounts, and vendor incentives.
• Track purchase price variations and their impact on gross margins.

E. Quality & Compliance

• Ensure sourced products comply with applicable quality standards, packaging, labelling, and regulatory requirements.
• For applicable food products, verify relevant FSSAI and other statutory requirements.
• Coordinate with QC, warehouse, and vendors to resolve quality complaints, shortages, and returns.
• Ensure appropriate shelf-life requirements and expiry controls for perishable and packaged products.

F. MIS & Reporting

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sourcing and merchandising reports.
• Maintain vendor databases, purchase trackers, price comparison sheets, and product master data.
• Track sales, stock, purchase orders, pending deliveries, margins, and inventory ageing.
• Submit category performance and sourcing updates to the reporting manager.
• 3. Required Skills & CompetenciesStrong FMCG sourcing, buying, and vendor negotiation skills.
• Good understanding of retail merchandising and category management.
• Knowledge of FMCG pricing, margins, trade schemes, and distributor networks.
• Strong analytical skills and proficiency in MS Excel.
• Experience with ERP, inventory management, and purchase order systems.
• Effective coordination, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to work with multiple vendors and manage time-sensitive requirements.
• 4. Educational QualificationGraduate in Commerce, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
• MBA in Supply Chain, Marketing, or Retail Management will be an added advantage.

8. Accuracy and timely submission of sourcing and merchandising MIS.

• 6. Preferred Candidate ProfileExperience in FMCG sourcing or buying for supermarket, hypermarket, or large-format retail chains.
• Exposure to staples, packaged foods, beverages, personal care, and home care categories.
• Candidates from Reliance Retail, D-Mart, V-Mart, Vishal Mega Mart, Spencer’s, or similar organised retail businesses will be preferred.
• Strong existing vendor contacts and experience in direct sourcing will be an advantage.
