Job Description: Radiographer / Imaging Technician – Clinic

1. Role Overview
We are looking for a skilled and responsible Radiographer / Imaging Technician to perform diagnostic X-ray procedures in a clinic environment. The candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality imaging services, maintaining strict radiation safety standards, ensuring zero radiation leakage, and complying with Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) guidelines.
The role also involves equipment maintenance, digital image management, coordination with radiologists and reporting partners, and maintaining accurate documentation for regulatory compliance and audits.
2. Key Responsibilities
A. Diagnostic Imaging
- Perform X-ray procedures according to prescribed protocols and clinical requirements.
- Verify patient identity, examination details, and consent before every procedure.
- Position patients accurately to ensure optimal image quality and minimize repeat exposures.
- Follow established imaging protocols and maintain consistent quality standards.
- Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety throughout the imaging process.
B. Radiation Safety & AERB Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable AERB guidelines and radiation safety protocols.
- Use and maintain Thermoluminescent Dosimeter (TLD) badges as required.
- Monitor TLD readings and promptly report abnormal or excessive exposure readings.
- Ensure the proper use of lead aprons, thyroid shields, and other protective equipment.
- Maintain radiation exposure logs, safety records, and relevant compliance documentation.
- Support periodic radiation surveys, inspections, and safety audits.
C. Radiation Leakage Prevention & Safety Controls
- Ensure X-ray room shielding, warning signs, and radiation safety equipment are maintained appropriately.
- Follow the ALARA principle (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) to minimize radiation exposure.
- Prevent unauthorized access to the imaging room during X-ray procedures.
- Immediately report suspected radiation leakage, equipment malfunction, or safety concerns to the Centre Manager.
- Follow established safety procedures and ensure corrective actions are taken when required.
D. Equipment Maintenance & Quality Checks
- Perform daily equipment warm-up procedures and operational safety checks.
- Monitor equipment performance and ensure imaging systems are functioning properly.
- Maintain equipment calibration records and preventive maintenance logs.
- Coordinate with the Biomedical Engineering (BME) team or authorized service vendors for repairs and maintenance.
- Report technical issues promptly and ensure equipment is used only when safe and operational.
E. Doctor & Reporting Coordination
- Coordinate with radiologists, doctors, and external reporting partners for timely reporting.
- Upload diagnostic images promptly to the Picture Archiving and Communication System (PACS) or designated reporting platform.
- Monitor report turnaround time (TAT) and ensure adherence to defined service-level agreements (SLAs).
- Follow up on pending reports and proactively escalate delays to the Centre Manager.
- Ensure accurate patient and study details are entered into the imaging and reporting systems.
F. Documentation & Audit Readiness
- Maintain accurate digital imaging logs, patient records, and radiation safety documentation.
- Ensure applicable AERB authorizations, certificates, equipment records, and radiation safety documents are current and readily available.
- Maintain records of TLD monitoring, equipment checks, calibration, and preventive maintenance.
- Participate in internal and external audits, inspections, and compliance reviews.
- Follow clinic policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), and quality assurance guidelines.
3. Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Zero radiation safety violations.
- Zero unexplained radiation exposure or radiation leakage incidents.
- 100% compliance with applicable TLD monitoring and usage requirements.
- Minimal repeat X-rays caused by technical errors or incorrect positioning.
- Timely image uploads and report delivery within defined SLAs.
- 100% readiness of required regulatory and operational documentation.
- Timely completion of equipment checks and maintenance records.
4. Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Radiography / Medical Imaging Technology is mandatory.
- Valid professional registration as required under applicable state regulations.
- Preferred experience of 2–6 years in X-ray imaging, diagnostic centres, or clinic-based imaging services.
- Practical knowledge of radiation safety protocols, AERB requirements, and TLD monitoring is required.
- Experience working with PACS, EMR, or digital imaging and reporting systems is preferred.
5. Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of radiation safety and patient protection.
- Good knowledge of X-ray procedures, patient positioning, and image quality standards.
- Attention to detail and strict adherence to clinical protocols.
- Strong documentation and record-maintenance skills.
- Effective coordination and communication with doctors, radiologists, and reporting teams.
- Ability to identify equipment issues and escalate concerns promptly.
- Familiarity with PACS, EMR, and digital reporting platforms.
- Professional conduct, accountability, and a patient-focused approach.
6. Ideal Candidate Profile
The ideal candidate will be technically competent, safety-conscious, and detail-oriented, with the ability to independently manage routine X-ray procedures while ensuring patient safety, regulatory compliance, accurate documentation, and timely coordination with the reporting team.
