Sr Mainframe COBOL Developer (COBOL/ CICS/ IMS)

Crisil is seeking a motivated and technically strong Senior Mainframe COBOL Developer. The role involves supporting critical payment applications, contributing to design and development activities, and driving improvements aligned with modern engineering practices, including Agile delivery and emerging AI capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

·         Develop, enhance, and maintain mainframe applications using COBOL, CICS, JCL, IMS DB / DC

·         Support mission-critical payment applications for global banking clients

·         Work closely with SMEs and cross-functional teams to ensure high-quality deliverables

·         Manage and track team work using JIRA

·         Support various problem resolution, and root cause analysis

·         Assist in performance tuning and capacity improvement initiatives

·         Contribute towards documentation, standards, and governance practices

·         Explore and support adoption of Agentic AI capabilities (e.g., automation, intelligent code analysis, AI-assisted development)

·         Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field

·         Certification in IBM Mainframe, COBOL or DB2 preferred

Required Skills & Experience:

·         8+ years of experience in Mainframe application development

·         Minimum 5+ years of hands-on experience with COBOL, CICS, JCL and IMS

·         Strong experience in:

o    COBOL (Mainframe development)

o    JCL (Job Control Language)

o    CICS

o    IMS DB / IMS DC

·         Familiarity with batch and online transaction processing systems

·         Working knowledge of Agile methodologies

·         Hands-on experience with JIRA for workflow and tracking

·         Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

·         Understanding of Agentic AI / AI-assisted development tools

Good to Have:

·         Experience in banking and payments domain

·         Knowledge of SWIFT, ACH, ISO 20022 or card payment processing

·         Experience with DB2 and VSAM

·         Familiarity with IBM z/OS utilities

·         Exposure to DevOps and CI/CD practices in a mainframe environment

·         Knowledge of AI-assisted development tools
