Manufacturing Industrial Engineer
The Manufacturing Industrial Engineer serves as a key contributor to manufacturing efficiency by developing labour strategies, capacity plans, line balancing solutions, and productivity improvements across machining and assembly operations.
This role bridges engineering planning and shop-floor execution by applying industrial engineering methodologies, ergonomic principles, simulation techniques, and data-driven decision-making to improve production performance, reduce waste, and support successful program launches.
The position collaborates with manufacturing, program management, production, finance, and global industrial engineering teams to achieve operational and business objectives.
Capacity Planning & Program Launch
- Develop manufacturing capacity strategies for new programs.
- Establish operating patterns and production line cycle time targets.
- Develop launch curves and production ramp-up plans to support program milestones.
- Support manufacturing readiness activities for new product launches.
- Participate in program reviews and launch management processes.
Labour Planning & Productivity
- Develop direct, indirect, and salaried workforce plans to meet labour efficiency targets.
- Create and maintain labour glide paths aligned with future production demand.
- Lead labour planning activities for machining and assembly operations.
- Monitor labour utilisation and recommend productivity improvements.
- Support labour cost forecasting and operational planning initiatives.
Industrial Engineering & Time Studies
- Perform cycle time studies and work measurement analyses.
- Conduct MODAPTS or equivalent predetermined motion time studies.
- Perform workstation balancing and line balancing activities to achieve production targets.
- Establish standard work and optimise labour allocation.
- Conduct ergonomic assessments and workplace improvement studies.
Manufacturing Optimisation
- Perform capacity, buffer, and constraint analyses.
- Identify and eliminate waste using Lean Manufacturing principles.
- Conduct benchmarking studies and implement best practices.
- Lead continuous improvement and innovation projects.
- Support plant Kaizen events and process optimisation initiatives.
Simulation & Analytics
- Support manufacturing simulation activities and production modelling.
- Analyse manufacturing performance data to improve throughput and efficiency.
- Investigate opportunities to utilise Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to improve operational performance.
- Develop productivity, labour, and capacity reports for leadership teams.
Governance & Standards
- Support development and maintenance of industrial engineering standards.
- Ensure work measurement and labour planning methodologies comply with company standards.
- Maintain labour, productivity, and capacity documentation.
- Support global knowledge-sharing and best-practice deployment initiatives.
Education
Bachelor's Degree in one of the following:
- Industrial Engineering
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Production Engineering
- Industrial & Systems Engineering
- Related Engineering discipline
Experience Required
- 3–5 years of manufacturing or industrial engineering experience.
- Experience in production environments involving machining and assembly operations.
- Experience conducting time studies, labour planning, or line balancing activities.
- Experience supporting new product launches or manufacturing readiness activities.
Preferred
- Automotive manufacturing experience.
- Powertrain, engine, or transmission manufacturing experience.
Experience working within global manufacturing organisations.
