QA Automation Engineer | Playwright & Java

Job Summary
Synechron is seeking a detail-oriented QA Automation Engineer who specializes in Playwright-based testing and Java. The role involves designing, developing, and maintaining automated test frameworks for web applications, validating end-to-end functionality across UI, backend, data outputs, and integrations. The ideal candidate will collaborate with product, development, QA, and operations teams to drive testing strategy, ensure quality, enable efficient CI/CD, and support a fast-moving, data-driven enterprise environment.

Software Requirements

Required Skills (Essential)

  • Proficiency in Playwright for automated testing of web applications, using JavaScript/TypeScript

  • Strong experience with Java to support test automation integration and data-layer validations

  • Solid experience in UI testing and functional testing across multi-component systems

  • Experience designing, implementing, and maintaining automated test scripts and frameworks

  • Familiarity with API testing (REST/GraphQL) and validation approaches

  • Proficiency in CI/CD integration of tests (Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Bitbucket Pipelines)

  • Strong SQL knowledge and experience with relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle)

  • Experience with test management/defect tracking tools (JIRA, HP ALM, or equivalents)

  • Knowledge of SDLC/Agile methodologies and participation in cross-functional ceremonies

  • Proficiency in version control systems (Git) and basic data/test data management

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with Cypress or other modern QA automation tools

  • Knowledge of performance testing basics and related tooling

  • Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes)

  • Experience with data automation, test data generation, and data governance concepts

  • Familiarity with multi-cloud testing environments

Overall Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain Playwright-based automated test scripts and frameworks for web applications

  • Define test strategies, test plans, data strategies, and execution governance for QA activities

  • Validate UI, API, and end-to-end workflows, ensuring data integrity and correct integration across components

  • Collaborate with product managers, developers, QA, and operations to ensure test coverage aligns with business requirements

  • Execute functional, regression, integration, SIT, and UAT testing; manage defects and retesting

  • Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable rapid, reliable releases

  • Maintain and update test documentation, traceability matrices, and reports

  • Mentor junior QA engineers and promote best practices in automation and testing

  • Stay current with testing tools and industry best practices; drive continuous improvement in QA capabilities

  • Support environment readiness and testing in collaboration with release management

Technical Skills (By Category)

Programming Languages

  • Essential: Java (for test automation integration), JavaScript/TypeScript (Playwright scripts)

  • Preferred: Python or other scripting languages for test utilities

Databases/Data Management

  • Essential: SQL, relational databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle)

  • Preferred: NoSQL (MongoDB, Cassandra) and data validation/test data management concepts

Cloud Technologies

  • Essential: Awareness of cloud-based testing environments and CI/CD

  • Preferred: Experience with cloud deployments and multi-cloud contexts (AWS/Azure/GCP)

Frameworks and Libraries

  • Essential: Playwright; API testing patterns; REST API validation

  • Preferred: Cypress, Selenium, or equivalent; test data management libraries

Development Tools and Methodologies

  • Essential: Git, Jira/Confluence, Agile/Scrum practices; CI/CD integration

  • Preferred: Jenkins, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI; test automation frameworks; performance testing integration

Security Protocols

  • Essential: Data privacy and secure testing practices

  • Preferred: Secure test data handling, basic security testing concepts

Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on QA/Automation experience with emphasis on Playwright-based testing

  • Experience delivering automated tests for web applications in an Agile environment

  • Familiarity with API testing and test data management

  • Cross-functional collaboration with product, development, QA, and operations teams

  • Banking/regulated industry exposure is a plus but not mandatory

  • Alternative pathways: strong portfolio of Playwright-based automation projects or relevant certifications

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Create, maintain, and enhance Playwright-based test scripts and frameworks

  • Plan and execute test activities; collaborate with stakeholders to ensure test coverage

  • Run automated and manual tests; log and track defects; ensure timely retesting

  • Contribute to test plans, test data strategies, and test environment requirements

  • Participate in planning, stand-ups, reviews, and retrospectives

  • Document results, metrics, and best practices; share knowledge with the team

  • Support release activities and post-release validation

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

  • 5+ years of hands-on QA/Automation experience with Playwright and Java

  • Certifications in QA/Automation or cloud platforms are advantageous
