Senior Software Engineer – Java, Cloud & APIs

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer to design, develop, and support cloud-native platform and API solutions within the Ford Electrification ecosystem.

The successful candidate will work closely with Product Managers, Architects, Designers, and Engineering teams to build secure, scalable, and reliable solutions using modern software engineering practices. This role requires strong expertise in Java, Spring Boot, distributed systems, cloud technologies, and collaborative problem-solving.

The engineer will contribute to architecture discussions, software delivery, technical leadership, integrated testing, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring high-quality engineering outcomes and operational excellence.

Software Design & Development

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise-grade applications and APIs using Java and Spring Boot.
• Participate in whiteboard discussions and technical workshops to gather and refine business and technical requirements.
• Develop scalable, maintainable, and secure platform services aligned with functional and non-functional requirements.
• Build prototypes and proof-of-concepts to validate technical solutions and architectural approaches.
• Ensure interoperability between internal and external systems through robust API and integration design.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

• Lead technical discussions and support the creation and implementation of IT solutions that meet business and infrastructure needs.
• Foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment for design discussions, troubleshooting, and day-to-day development activities.
• Demonstrate strong lateral thinking and problem-solving skills when addressing complex technical challenges.
• Lead team members toward a shared understanding of architecture, design patterns, and implementation strategies.
• Participate in cross-team engineering forums and knowledge-sharing initiatives.

Cloud & Platform Engineering

• Design and implement cloud-native solutions leveraging Google Cloud Platform (GCP) services.
• Apply enterprise architecture and cloud reference architecture principles.
• Support platform scalability, reliability, observability, and operational excellence.
• Contribute to platform modernization and adoption of emerging technologies.

Quality Engineering & DevOps

• Participate in integrated testing activities to ensure end-to-end product quality across the Enterprise Connectivity ecosystem.
• Support Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) practices.
• Collaborate in pair programming and peer review activities to improve code quality and knowledge sharing.
• Provide estimates and support planning activities while effectively managing changing priorities.

Security & Reliability

• Build secure applications and APIs following industry best practices.
• Identify and remediate vulnerabilities and security risks.
• Ensure appropriate monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling are in place to maintain service reliability and security.

Data & AI-Driven Solutions

• Design data models and database schemas for both relational and NoSQL database solutions.
• Support implementation of AI-powered solutions, including practical use cases involving Large Language Models (LLMs) and intelligent automation.
• Evaluate opportunities to leverage AI technologies to improve engineering productivity and business outcomes.

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline with a minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience; OR
• Master's degree in a related technical field with a minimum of 3 years of relevant professional experience.
