Laboratory Technician

Job Profile – Senior Lab TechnicianPosition OverviewThe Senior Lab Technician is responsible for performing, supervising, and coordinating laboratory testing and technical activities. The role ensures accurate test results, proper equipment operation, adherence to safety standards, and compliance with laboratory quality procedures.

• Key ResponsibilitiesPerform routine and advanced laboratory tests according to approved methods and SOPs.
• Prepare, label, handle, and process laboratory samples accurately.
• Operate, calibrate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Verify test results and identify abnormal, inconsistent, or out-of-specification results.
• Maintain accurate laboratory records, test reports, logs, and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with laboratory SOPs, quality standards, safety procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Conduct quality-control checks and participate in internal quality-assurance activities.
• Monitor inventory of laboratory chemicals, reagents, consumables, and other supplies.
• Ensure proper storage, labeling, and disposal of samples and hazardous materials.
• Train, guide, and supervise junior laboratory technicians and assistants.
• Investigate testing errors, equipment issues, and non-conformities and recommend corrective actions.
• Support method validation, verification, calibration, and implementation of new laboratory procedures.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory environment.
• Prepare and submit laboratory reports and communicate significant findings to the concerned department.
• Participate in audits, inspections, and continuous-improvement initiatives.
• Required QualificationsBachelor’s degree or Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Life Sciences, or a related field.
• Typically 4–7 years of relevant laboratory experience, with supervisory or senior-level experience preferred.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, testing methods, quality control, and laboratory safety.
• Good computer skills and familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIMS) is an advantage.
