Job Description
Job SummaryResponsible for performing and supervising routine and specialized biochemistry investigations, ensuring accurate results, proper sample processing, quality control, equipment maintenance, and compliance with laboratory SOPs and quality standards.
- Key ResponsibilitiesPerform routine and specialized biochemistry tests as per approved SOPs.
- Handle sample collection, identification, processing, separation, storage, and disposal.
- Operate and monitor fully automated and semi-automated biochemistry analyzers.
- Perform daily calibration, internal quality control (IQC), and troubleshooting of instruments.
- Review QC results and take corrective action when required.
- Verify test results and identify abnormal, inconsistent, or critical values before reporting.
- Ensure proper reagent preparation, storage, inventory, and expiry monitoring.
- Maintain analyzer logs, temperature records, QC records, maintenance records, and other laboratory documentation.
- Perform preventive maintenance and coordinate with service engineers for instrument breakdowns.
- Ensure proper functioning and cleanliness of laboratory equipment and work areas.
- Follow biosafety, infection-control, biomedical waste management, and laboratory safety procedures.
- Train and guide junior laboratory technicians and new staff in biochemistry procedures.
- Monitor workflow and ensure timely completion and reporting of samples.
- Coordinate with the reporting team and other departments regarding technical issues and critical results.
- Participate in internal audits, quality improvement activities, and accreditation-related requirements.
- Maintain confidentiality and ensure proper handling of patient information and laboratory records.
- Key Skills & CompetenciesStrong knowledge of clinical biochemistry procedures and principles.
- Hands-on experience with automated biochemistry analyzers.
- Good understanding of IQC, calibration, reagent management, and troubleshooting.
- Ability to identify pre-analytical, analytical, and post-analytical errors.
- Good documentation and record-maintenance skills.
- Leadership and team-management abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage high sample volumes.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
