Job Description – Head of Technician

About the RoleGBG EV is looking for an experienced and technically strong Head of Technician to lead and manage the technical and service operations across multiple locations. The role will be responsible for technician team management, vehicle maintenance, troubleshooting, service quality, technical training, and ensuring smooth and timely resolution of technical issues.
Key Responsibilities
- 1.Technician Team ManagementLead, supervise, and manage the technician team across assigned locations.
- Allocate technical work and monitor technician productivity.
- Ensure adequate technician availability based on operational requirements.
- Monitor attendance, performance, discipline, and productivity of technicians.
- Build and maintain a skilled and efficient technical workforce.
2. Vehicle Maintenance & Technical Support
- Oversee preventive and corrective maintenance of EV vehicles.
- Ensure timely diagnosis and resolution of technical issues.
- Monitor vehicle breakdowns, repairs, and service requirements.
- Establish standard processes for inspection, servicing, and maintenance.
- Ensure vehicles are maintained in safe and roadworthy condition.
3. Technical Troubleshooting
- Provide technical guidance for complex vehicle and electrical issues.
- Analyze recurring technical problems and identify root causes.
- Coordinate with OEMs, manufacturers, and technical partners for unresolved issues.
- Develop solutions to minimize vehicle downtime.
- Maintain records of major technical issues and their resolutions.
4. Service Quality & Process Improvement
- Establish and maintain technical service standards across locations.
- Conduct regular audits and inspections of workshops and service activities.
- Monitor turnaround time (TAT) for repairs and maintenance.
- Identify operational gaps and implement corrective actions.
- Continuously improve technician productivity and service quality.
5. Training & Development
- Conduct technical training and onboarding programs for technicians.
- Ensure technicians are updated on EV technology, vehicle systems, and repair procedures.
- Identify skill gaps and arrange appropriate training.
- Develop SOPs, technical guidelines, and troubleshooting procedures.
6. Spare Parts & Inventory Coordination
- Coordinate with the procurement and operations teams for timely availability of spare parts.
- Monitor usage of critical spare parts and technical consumables.
- Reduce unnecessary spare-part consumption and wastage.
- Ensure proper documentation of parts used for repairs.
7. Reporting & MIS
- Maintain accurate records of vehicle repairs, breakdowns, service history, and technician performance.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly technical reports.
- Track key technical KPIs such as vehicle downtime, TAT, repeat repairs, and first-time resolution.
- Present technical performance reports and improvement plans to senior management.
8. Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Fleet Operations, Supply Chain, Finance, HR, and other departments.
- Work closely with fleet teams to ensure minimum vehicle downtime.
- Support new vehicle deployment by ensuring technical readiness.
- Coordinate with external service partners and OEM technical teams when required.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of Electric Vehicles (EVs), electrical systems, batteries, motors, controllers, and vehicle diagnostics.
- Strong leadership and team-management skills.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Good knowledge of preventive and corrective maintenance.
- Strong communication and coordination skills.
- Ability to manage multiple locations and technical teams.
- Good knowledge of MS Excel and reporting tools.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and target-driven environment.
- Eligibility & Experience Diploma / Bachelor's degree in Automobile, Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, or a related field.
- 8+ years of relevant technical experience, preferably with 4+ years in a leadership/managerial role.
- Experience in EV, automotive, fleet, workshop, or mobility operations will be preferred.
- Willingness to travel across locations as required.
