Optometrist Trainer

We are looking for an experienced and passionate Optometrist Trainer to train, mentor, and upskill optometrists, optical associates, and retail staff. The ideal candidate will be responsible for delivering technical, clinical, and customer service training while ensuring standardized eye care practices across all locations. This role requires strong clinical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to develop engaging training programs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Optometry (B.Optom/B.Opt).
• Valid registration with the relevant Optometry Council (where applicable).
• 3-6 years of clinical or retail optometry experience.
• Prior training or teaching experience is preferred.

Required Skills

• Strong refraction and eye examination skills.
• Knowledge of slit lamp, retinoscopy, tonometry, and diagnostic instruments.
• Excellent presentation and public speaking abilities.
• Training and coaching skills.
• Communication and interpersonal skills.
• Problem-solving and analytical thinking.
• Microsoft Office and LMS familiarity.
• Willingness to travel across branches.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in retail optical chains or eye hospitals.
• Experience in curriculum or training content development.
• Certification in Learning & Development is an added advantage.

Key Responsibilities

Training & Development

• Conduct classroom, virtual, and on-the-job training sessions.
• Train new hires on optometry fundamentals and clinical protocols.
• Develop refresher programs for existing employees.
• Deliver practical demonstrations on refraction, slit lamp examination, contact lens fitting, and vision screening.
• Train teams on diagnostic equipment and optical instruments.

Clinical Excellence

• Ensure compliance with clinical SOPs and quality standards.
• Monitor accuracy of refraction and eye examination procedures.
• Provide guidance on patient counseling and eye care best practices.
• Stay updated with advancements in optometry and incorporate them into training.

Assessment & Performance

• Evaluate trainee competency through assessments and practical examinations.
• Identify skill gaps and create improvement plans.
• Maintain training records, attendance, and certification reports.
• Provide continuous coaching and mentoring.

Content Development

• Prepare training manuals, presentations, videos, and SOPs.
• Update learning materials based on new products, technologies, and clinical guidelines.
• Support Learning Management System (LMS) initiatives where applicable.

Retail & Customer Experience (if applicable)

• Train staff on eyewear dispensing and product knowledge.
• Coach teams on customer interaction and communication.
• Support store launches and periodic quality audits.
• Improve customer satisfaction through effective service training.
