Lathe Machine Operator

We are seeking a detail-oriented Manual Lathe Machine Operator to fabricate high-quality precision parts. You will interpret engineering drawings, manually configure machine settings, and control the cutting process from start to finish. Key Responsibilities

• Manual Setup: Change, align, and secure cutting tools, chucks, collets, fixtures, and attachments manually.
• Blueprint Reading: Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and job specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Machine Operation: Control levers, handwheels, and dials to regulate cutting speeds, feed rates, and depth of cuts.
• Fabrication Duties: Perform precise manual turning, facing, boring, threading, taper turning, and knurling operations.
• Precision Inspection: Measure finished parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and thread gauges to ensure exact tolerances.
• Material Management: Select appropriate raw materials and secure heavy stock into the machine safely.
• Maintenance & Cleanliness: Lubricate machinery, clear metal shavings, monitor tool wear, and perform basic preventative maintenance.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• Experience: Proven track record as a Manual/Conventional Lathe Operator or Machinist.
• Tool Mastery: Expert proficiency with measuring tools (micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges).
• Mathematical Skill: Strong shop math, including geometry and trigonometry, to calculate dimensions and angles.
• Physical Stamina: Ability to stand for long periods and manually lift heavy metal stock (up to 50 lbs).
• Attention to Detail: Sharp focus required to detect mechanical issues by sound or visual inspection during cutting.
