Department Director

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time Urban Applications Department Director in Bangalore we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your expertise in industrialization, program management, and leadership to a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative team of professionals.

You'll play a pivotal role in driving global complex programs, ensuring seamless execution while fostering innovation and teamwork. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with cross-functional teams across the business (engineering, operations, and finance), oversee risk management and change control processes, and mentor team members to achieve their full potential.

You’ll specifically take care of developing and implementing best practices for software development, ensuring scalability and reliability, but also fostering strong customer relationships and ensuring stakeholder alignment.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Driving industrialization and managing global complex programs.

  • Providing proven leadership, mentorship, and cross-functional communication.

  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving to achieve business objectives.

  • Managing S&OP and budgets to optimize financial performance.

  • Overseeing risk management, change control, and variation orders.

  • Driving program execution in line with QCD and Alstom processes.

  • Performance management, hiring, and team development.

  • Building and leading multi-functional teams while ensuring stakeholder alignment.

  • Fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the engineering team.

  • Maintaining compliance with ethics, safety, and quality standards.

  • Acting as the primary representative of the department to senior management and external stakeholders.

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Engineering Degree or Master’s Degree (mandatory).

  • Proven experience in multinational environments and diverse business cultures.

  • 15 to 20 years of successful experience in a leadership role, within industries such as Railway Signalling, Industrial Automation, or Aerospace.

  • At least 5 years of experience in the Railway Signalling industry.

  • Significant experience in handling global programs.

  • Experience in managing and developing teams.

  • Knowledge of Railway Signalling and CBTC Systems for Urban Solutions (desirable).

  • Good understanding of digital technologies and industry trends.

  • Familiarity with industry protocols (e.g., OPC UA, EULYNX, NEUPRO).

  • Experience deploying industry-standard tools like ALM and CoPilot.

  • Understanding of Safety Processes (e.g., Non-SIL, SIL2, SIL4).

  • Knowledge of embedded technologies and HW/SW integrations.

  • Proficiency in automation using the latest technologies (e.g., Artificial Intelligence).

  • Excellent communication, leadership, organization, and time-management skills.

  • Open-minded and entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on collaboration and continuous improvement.

Things you’ll enjoy Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Enjoy stability, challenges, and a long-term career free from boring daily routines.

  • Work with new security standards for rail signalling.

  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues.

  • Contribute to innovative projects.

  • Utilise our flexible and inclusive working environment.

  • Steer your career in whatever direction you choose across functions and countries.

  • Benefit from our investment in your development, through award-winning learning opportunities.

  • Progress towards leadership roles or other professional growth opportunities.

  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognises your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical, pension).

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
