Role Overview

The Sr Linux Server Administrator P3 is responsible for advanced administration performance tuning lifecycle management and automation of Linux infrastructure in enterprise environments

The role focuses on capacity management OS upgrades kernel patching problem management monitoring backup strategy and automation ensuring scalable secure and resilient Linux platforms across hybrid environments OnPrem VMware Cloud

The engineer acts as an L3 escalation point driving operational excellence and continuous improvement

Key Responsibilities

1 Capacity Management Performance Optimization

Perform capacity monitoring analysis and tuning activities CPU memory disk IO

Implement capacityrelated changes and optimization measures

Perform threshold finetuning and monitoring optimization

Ensure optimal system performance aligned with workload requirements

2 OS Lifecycle Management Upgrade Patching

Plan and execute

oOS upgrades RHEL SUSE Ubuntu etc

oKernel patching and updates

Identify and recommend

oPatch baselines and deployment scope

Ensure minimal downtime and riskcontrolled implementation

3 Automation Scripting

Identify automation opportunities across operations

Develop and implement

oShellBash scripts

oAutomation frameworks for routine tasks

Create and manage

oCron job automation for scheduled operations

Drive standardization and efficiency through automation

4 Monitoring Observability

Define monitoring parameters and thresholds

Configure and optimize monitoring toolsagents as per design

Improve accuracy and reduce false positives

Ensure proactive issue detection and performance visibility

5 Backup Recovery Strategy

Define and implement backup policies aligned with RPORTO requirements

Configure backup tools and validate restore mechanisms

Perform backup integrity validation and recovery testing

6 Time Synchronization System Configuration

Configure and manage NTP Network Time Protocol synchronization

Ensure consistent timing across

oServers

oClusters

oDistributed applications

7 Change Management Governance

Create detailed change plans for infrastructure activities

Participate in

oChange advisory discussions

oImplementation reviews

Ensure compliance with change management processes and approvals

8 Security Vulnerability Management

Analyze and interpret vulnerability scan reports eg Qualys Nessus

Create and implement remediation plans for vulnerabilities

Identify patching requirements for security compliance

Support system hardening and compliance initiatives

9 Problem Management RCA

Perform root cause analysis RCA for incidents and recurring issues

Drive problem management lifecycle including

oTrend analysis

oPermanent resolution implementation

Maintain knowledge repository and reusable fixes

10 Risk Management Mitigation

Identify operational and platform risks proactively

Develop and execute risk mitigation plans

Ensure resilience and high availability of Linux platforms

11 Server Lifecycle Management

Perform server upgrade and migration support activities

Manage safe decommissioning of servers including

oData sanitization

oDependency validation

oDocumentation updates
