Reports To: Principal / Director / Finance Manager / Management
Job SummaryThe Senior Accountant is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day accounting operations of the organization, ensuring accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance, budgeting, payroll processing, and maintaining proper financial records. The role requires strong analytical skills, leadership, and knowledge of accounting principles and taxation.
- Key ResponsibilitiesFinancial AccountingMaintain accurate books of accounts in accordance with accounting standards.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Monitor cash flow, bank balances, and fund utilization.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of bank accounts, ledgers, and vendor/customer accounts.
- Maintain fixed asset registers and depreciation schedules.
- Budgeting & Financial PlanningPrepare annual budgets and financial forecasts.
- Monitor departmental budgets and expenditure.
- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations for cost control.
- Statutory ComplianceEnsure compliance with GST, TDS, Income Tax, Professional Tax, EPF, ESI, Labour Laws, and other statutory requirements.
- Prepare and file all statutory returns within prescribed timelines.
- Coordinate with auditors during internal and statutory audits.
- Maintain compliance with government regulations applicable to educational institutions.
- Payroll ManagementProcess monthly salary and employee reimbursements.
- Ensure timely deduction and remittance of statutory contributions.
- Maintain payroll records and employee salary documentation.
- Accounts Payable & ReceivableVerify invoices, purchase bills, and payment vouchers.
- Monitor receivables and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Ensure timely payments to vendors and service providers.
- Financial ControlsImplement and monitor internal financial controls.
- Verify all accounting entries and supporting documents.
- Prevent financial irregularities through regular reviews and audits.
- ReportingPrepare MIS reports for management.
- Present monthly financial performance reports.
- Assist management in financial decision-making through analytical reports.
- Team ManagementSupervise junior accountants and accounts assistants.
- Allocate work and review accounting records.
- Provide guidance and training to finance staff.
- DocumentationMaintain proper filing of financial records and supporting documents.
- Ensure confidentiality of financial information.
- Preserve records as per statutory requirements.
- QualificationsBachelor's Degree in Commerce (B.Com) – Mandatory.
- M.Com / CA Inter / CMA Inter / MBA (Finance) – Preferred.
- Professional accounting certifications are an added advantage.
- ExperienceMinimum 5–8 years of experience in accounting and finance.
- Experience in educational institutions is preferred.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software (Tally ERP/Tally Prime, Busy, Zoho Books, or ERP systems).
- Skills RequiredStrong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Knowledge of GST, TDS, Income Tax, EPF, ESI, and statutory compliance.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and accounting software.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- High level of integrity and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)Accuracy and timeliness of financial reports.
- Timely statutory compliance and tax filings.
- Successful completion of audits with minimal observations.
- Effective budget monitoring and cost control.
- Timely payroll processing.
- Accuracy of bank reconciliations and ledger maintenance.
- Efficient cash flow management.
- Zero financial irregularities and strong internal controls.
- Working ConditionsFull-time position.
- Standard office working hours with flexibility during audits and financial closing periods.
- May require additional hours during statutory filing and year-end closing.
