Sweeper-cum-Housekeeper – Detailed Activity List

Designation: Sweeper-cum-Housekeeper

Work Area: Institute Building (Rooms, Corridors, Washrooms, Common Areas, and Outdoor Porch)

Daily Cleaning Activities:

1. Sweep and mop all rooms before the start of working hours.

2. Dust and wipe tables, chairs, desks, cupboards, shelves, windowsills, and other furniture.

3. Clean doors, door handles, switchboards, and window panes.

4. Empty all dustbins and replace garbage liners where required.

5. Segregate waste as per institutional guidelines.

6. Clean and disinfect toilets, urinals, wash basins, mirrors, taps, and bathroom floors at least twice daily.

7. Refill soap dispensers, toilet paper, and hand towels where applicable.

8. Sweep and mop corridors, lobbies, reception area, and waiting areas.

9. Clean staircases, handrails, and landings.

10. Remove cobwebs from ceilings, corners, fans, and light fixtures.

11. Wipe classroom boards and podiums.

12. Clean drinking water points and surrounding areas.

13. Ensure all floors are dry and safe to prevent slips and falls.

Outdoor Cleaning

1. Sweep entrance, pathways, verandas, and parking areas.

2. Collect and dispose of leaves, litter, and debris.

3. Maintain cleanliness around the building and boundary areas.

4. Clean drains and ensure water outlets remain unobstructed.

Periodic Cleaning

1. Deep clean rooms once every week.

2. Wash windows, glass partitions, and grills.

3. Dust ceiling fans, tube lights, and air vents.

4. Clean curtains, blinds, and notice boards as scheduled.

5. Polish furniture where required.

6. Remove stains from walls, floors, and furniture.

7. Assist in pest control and sanitization activities.

Housekeeping Responsibilities

1. Arrange furniture neatly after cleaning.

2. Ensure classrooms and offices are ready before working hours.

3. Report damaged furniture, fittings, plumbing, or electrical issues.

4. Maintain stock of cleaning materials and report shortages.

5. Handle cleaning equipment carefully and store it properly.

6. Assist during institutional functions by cleaning and arranging venues before and after events.

Hygiene and Safety

1. Wear prescribed uniform, gloves, mask, and safety gear.

2. Use cleaning chemicals safely according to instructions.

3. Follow health, hygiene, and safety protocols.

4. Ensure cleaning equipment does not obstruct movement.

5. Immediately clean spills to prevent accidents.

Waste Management

1. Collect waste from all rooms and common areas.

2. Segregate biodegradable, recyclable, and general waste.

3. Dispose of waste only at designated collection points.

4. Maintain cleanliness around waste storage areas.

Reporting and Discipline

1. Report for duty on time.

2. Follow instructions from the institute administration.

3. Maintain courteous behaviour with students, staff, and visitors.

4. Maintain a daily cleaning log if required.

5. Perform any other housekeeping-related duties assigned by the competent authority.
