Job Title: VMC Machine Operator cum Programmer

Department: Production / Manufacturing

Reports To: Production Manager / Shop Floor Supervisor

Job Summary

Responsible for programming, setting, and operating Vertical Machining Center (VMC) machines to manufacture precision components as per engineering drawings, quality standards, and production targets. The role includes machine setup, CNC programming, tooling selection, inspection, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate VMC machines for production jobs.
• Create, edit, and optimize CNC programs (G-code/M-code).
• Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and process sheets.
• Select cutting tools, fixtures, and machining parameters.
• Set tool offsets, work offsets, and machine coordinates.
• Perform first-piece inspection and in-process quality checks.
• Measure components using Vernier calipers, micrometers, height gauges, and other instruments.
• Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments.
• Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and program-related issues.
• Maintain production records and inspection reports.
• Follow safety procedures and 5S practices.
• Perform routine machine maintenance and housekeeping.

Required Skills

• Knowledge of VMC/CNC machine operation and setup.
• CNC programming (G-code & M-code).
• Familiarity with CAM software such as Mastercam, Fusion 360, NX, or SolidCAM.
• Understanding of machining processes, tooling, feeds, and speeds.
• Ability to read mechanical drawings and tolerances.
• Knowledge of quality inspection instruments.
• Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Qualifications

1. ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Tool & Die, Production Engineering, or related field.
2. 2–5 years of experience in VMC programming and operation (or as required by the company).

Preferred Knowledge

Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or similar CNC controllers.

CAD/CAM software.

Manufacturing quality systems and production planning.

Salary Range (India)

Typically ₹30,000–₹35,000 per month, depending on experience, machine complexity, and location.
