Job Summary
The Housekeeping Supervisor is responsible for planning, supervising, and monitoring all housekeeping operations within the hospital to ensure a clean, safe, hygienic, and infection-free environment for patients, visitors, and staff. The role includes managing housekeeping personnel, maintaining cleanliness standards, ensuring compliance with infection control protocols, and supporting NABH/QCI quality standards.
- Key Responsibilities1. Housekeeping OperationsSupervise daily housekeeping activities across all hospital areas.
- Ensure cleanliness of patient rooms, OPD, ICU, OT, Emergency, laboratories, offices, washrooms, corridors, staircases, waiting areas, and public spaces.
- Allocate duties and work schedules to housekeeping staff.
- Conduct daily inspections and maintain cleanliness standards.
- 2. Staff ManagementPrepare and manage duty rosters.
- Ensure adequate staffing in all shifts.
- Monitor attendance, punctuality, grooming, and discipline.
- Conduct shift handovers and briefing sessions.
- Guide and motivate housekeeping staff to improve performance.
- 3. Infection Control & HygieneEnsure proper cleaning and disinfection procedures are followed.
- Monitor compliance with infection control policies.
- Ensure proper use of PPE by housekeeping staff.
- Coordinate with the Infection Control Team for cleaning protocols.
- Ensure safe handling of contaminated materials.
- 4. Biomedical Waste ManagementEnsure segregation of biomedical waste as per applicable regulations.
- Monitor correct use of color-coded bins.
- Ensure safe collection and transportation of biomedical waste.
- Report any non-compliance immediately.
5. Cleaning Quality InspectionConduct routine inspections of:
- Patient Rooms
- ICU
- OT
- Emergency
- OPD
- Laboratories
- Washrooms
- Reception
- Waiting Areas
- Staircases
- Elevators
- Parking Areas
- Hospital Premises
Prepare daily inspection reports.
- 6. Inventory & Equipment ManagementMaintain stock of housekeeping consumables.
- Ensure availability of cleaning chemicals and PPE.
- Monitor housekeeping equipment such as vacuum cleaners, floor scrubbers, mops, and trolleys.
- Report damaged equipment for repair or replacement.
- 7. Complaint HandlingRespond promptly to housekeeping-related complaints.
- Resolve cleanliness issues in coordination with concerned departments.
- Maintain a complaint register and corrective action records.
8. Training & DevelopmentConduct regular training on:
- Cleaning Procedures
- Infection Control
- Hand Hygiene
- Biomedical Waste Management
- PPE Usage
- Chemical Safety
- Fire Safety
- Patient Interaction
- Grooming & Professional Behaviour
Maintain training records.
- 9. Safety ComplianceEnsure safe use and storage of cleaning chemicals.
- Maintain wet floor signage during cleaning.
- Ensure emergency exits remain unobstructed.
- Report safety hazards immediately.

- Daily DutiesConduct morning and evening rounds.
- Inspect all assigned areas.
- Ensure timely cleaning of patient care areas.
- Verify staff attendance.
- Monitor housekeeping quality.

- QualificationGraduate preferred.
- Diploma in Housekeeping, Hotel Management, or Hospital Administration is an added advantage.
- ExperienceMinimum 2–5 years of housekeeping experience.
- At least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
- Hospital experience preferred.

- Report disciplinary issues.
- Recommend training and performance improvements.
- Escalate maintenance and hygiene concerns to management.
Code of ConductThe Housekeeping Supervisor shall:
- Maintain the highest standards of hygiene and professionalism.
- Treat patients, attendants, and colleagues with courtesy and respect.
- Ensure discipline, punctuality, and proper grooming among housekeeping staff.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding hospital operations and patient information.
- Comply with all hospital policies, safety guidelines, and quality standards.
