Quality Control Engineer

Job Outline

We are looking for a responsible and detail-oriented Quality Control Engineer to ensure that all incoming materials, in-process components, fabricated parts, welded assemblies, and finished products meet the required quality standards, customer specifications, and company requirements.

Job Description

·       Incoming Material Inspection - Inspect incoming raw materials, consumables, hardware, fasteners, and packing materials. Verify material thickness, grade, dimensions, surface condition, quantity, test certificates, and supplier documents as per purchase order and company standards. Prepare and maintain incoming inspection reports. Raise rejection notes or non-conformance reports for defective or non-conforming materials.

·       In-Process Quality Inspection: Conduct stage-wise inspection during production processes. Check dimensional accuracy, hole positions, bend angles, flatness, welding quality, surface finish, coating quality, and fitment as per drawings and approved samples. Ensure that operators follow approved drawings, process parameters, work instructions, and quality standards. Identify defects at the earliest stage and coordinate with production for correction.

·       Final Inspection: Carry out final inspection before dispatch. Verify product dimensions, appearance, assembly correctness, powder coating finish, packing quality, labelling, quantity, and customer-specific requirements. Approve finished goods for dispatch only after ensuring compliance with specifications. Prepare final inspection reports and maintain records.

·       Drawing and Specification Understanding: Read and understand engineering drawings, fabrication drawings, bend drawings, assembly drawings, and customer specifications. Verify parts as per drawing tolerances, critical dimensions, hole patterns, bend details, weld locations, and assembly requirements. Coordinate with design or production teams in case of drawing clarifications or quality concerns.

·       Welding and Fabrication Quality: Inspect welding quality for defects such as undercut, porosity, cracks, improper penetration, excess spatter, distortion, poor alignment, and incomplete welding. Ensure fabricated structures are dimensionally correct and visually acceptable. Verify jigs, fixtures, templates, and fitment during fabrication.

·       Quality Documentation: Prepare and maintain quality records such as incoming inspection reports, in-process inspection reports, final inspection reports, non-conformance reports, rework and rejection records, customer complaint reports, calibration records, process inspection checklists, first-piece approval reports, quality objective monitoring records. Ensure documentation is maintained properly as per ISO 9001:2015 requirements.

·       Non-Conformance and Corrective Action: Identify, record, and report non-conforming products or processes. Coordinate with production, purchase, stores, and suppliers for corrective actions. Analyse repeated defects and support root cause analysis. Implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce rejection, rework, customer complaints, and process defects.

·       Calibration and Measuring Instruments: Use and maintain measuring instruments such as vernier caliper, micrometer, height gauge, angle gauge, measuring tape, coating thickness gauge, weld gauge, go/no-go gauges, and templates. Ensure measuring instruments are calibrated as per schedule. Maintain calibration records and inform management before calibration due dates.

·       ISO and Continuous Improvement: Support ISO 9001:2015 quality management system implementation. Participate in internal audits, process audits, quality meetings, and management review preparation. Contribute to quality improvement, rejection reduction, process standardization, 5S, safety, and productivity improvement activities.

Skills Required

·      Good knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing processes

·      Ability to read engineering drawings and understand tolerances.

·      Knowledge of welding inspection, bending inspection, powder coating inspection, and dimensional inspection.

·      Basic knowledge of ISO 9001: 2015 quality management system.

·      Ability to prepare inspection checklists and quality formats.

·      Experience in handling customer inspections and supplier quality issues.

·      Knowledge of NCR, CAPA, 5 Why Analysis, rejection analysis, and quality documentation.

·      Knowledge of 7 QC tools, 5S, Kaizen, and root cause analysis.

·      Willingness to work on the shop floor.

·      Ability to handle pressure and meet dispatch timelines without compromising quality.

·      Ability to communicate clearly with production workers, supervisors, suppliers, and customers.

·      Honest and disciplined approach to quality.
