Dialysis Technician

Job Summary:

To provide safe and effective haemodialysis treatment to patients with chronic kidney disease or acute renal failure, ensuring machine readiness, patient monitoring, infection control, and adherence to clinical protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

Pre-Dialysis Duties:

·       Prepare the dialysis machine and necessary supplies before each treatment.

·       Conduct pre-treatment checks: machine calibration, RO water quality, and dialyzer setup.

·       Prepare and position the patient, verify identification, and confirm medical orders.

·       Assess vascular access site and perform cannulation using aseptic technique.

During Dialysis Duties:

·       Monitor vital signs and respond to complications like hypotension, cramps, or nausea.

·       Adjust flow rates and anticoagulant levels as per physician instructions.

·       Maintain communication with the patient throughout the session for reassurance and safety.

·       Ensure proper operation of the dialysis machine and troubleshoot alarms if needed.

Post-Dialysis Duties:

·       Disconnect the patient and manage post-procedure care and dressing.

·       Clean and disinfect dialysis equipment and workstation after each use.

·       Dispose of biomedical waste according to hospital infection control guidelines.

Documentation & Communication:

·       Record treatment parameters, patient response, and incidents in dialysis charts.

·       Report abnormal findings or complications to the nephrologist or duty doctor.

·       Maintain inventory of supplies and report shortage or malfunctioning equipment.
