Job Description – Electrician (Utilities & Electrical Maintenance)
Position Title:
Electrician – Utilities & Electrical Maintenance
Department:
Engineering / Utilities
Job Purpose:
To operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot electrical utility systems and distribution equipment to ensure uninterrupted and safe operation of plant utilities and associated systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operation & Monitoring - Operate and monitor electrical utility systems to ensure uninterrupted power supply to utility and production areas.
- Monitor and record parameters of electrical systems such as voltage, current, frequency, power factor, and load conditions.
- Ensure all electrical systems operate within approved operational limits.
- Coordinate during power changeovers and emergency situations with BMS operators, HVAC teams, and utility operators.
Electrical Maintenance:
- Perform preventive and breakdown maintenance of:
- LT/MV Panels
- MCC & PCC Panels
- UPS Systems
- Distribution Boards
- Transformers
- Motors and Starters
- Lighting Systems
- Earthing and Lightning Protection Systems
- Carry out tightening, cleaning, inspection, and servicing of electrical panels, connections, and equipment.
- Attend electrical faults and breakdowns promptly to minimize downtime.
- Identify root causes of electrical failures and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure safe isolation of electrical systems before maintenance activities.
Utility Equipment Support:
- Provide electrical support for utility equipment including:
- HVAC Systems (AHU, Chillers, Cooling Towers)
- Air Compressors
- Boilers
- RO / Water Treatment Systems
- Pumps and Motors
Safety & Compliance:
- Follow electrical safety procedures and LOTO (Lockout-Tagout) practices.
- Use proper PPE while performing electrical work.
- Report unsafe conditions and safety hazards immediately.
- Maintain all activities in compliance with company safety standards and GMP guidelines.
- Ensure proper cable routing, labeling, and housekeeping standards in electrical areas.
Documentation & Reporting:
- Maintain daily logbooks and maintenance records as per GMP/GDP requirements.
- Record preventive and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Monitor and record electrical energy consumption data.
- Provide proper shift handover with system status, ongoing activities, and pending issues.
- Maintain documentation required for audits and compliance.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Support emergency power restoration activities.
- Operate DG sets during power failures and emergencies.
- Coordinate with housekeeping personnel to maintain cleanliness of electrical rooms and panels.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of electrical tools and materials.
Required Qualification:
ITI Electrician / Diploma in Electrical Engineering
Experience:
2–5 years of experience in electrical maintenance and utility operations, preferably in pharmaceutical, healthcare, industrial, or process plant environments.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of MCC, PCC, LT Panels, UPS, DG systems, and motors.
- Understanding of preventive and breakdown maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with Star-Delta starters and motor control circuits.
- Basic troubleshooting skills for utility equipment.
- Knowledge of electrical safety and LOTO procedures.
- Ability to maintain maintenance records and logbooks.
