Position: Solar Electrician

Department: Projects / Operations

Reporting To: Project Manager / Site Engineer

Job Summary:

The Solar Electrician is responsible for the installation, testing, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems. The role includes conducting site surveys, identifying electrical faults, ensuring compliance with safety standards, and delivering quality workmanship at residential, commercial, and industrial project sites.

• Key Responsibilities

1. Electrical Installation

• Install solar PV modules, inverters, junction boxes, ACDB, DCDB, cables, earthing, and lightning protection systems.
• Perform AC and DC electrical wiring as per approved drawings and standards.
• Install cable trays, conduits, and electrical accessories.
• Ensure proper cable dressing, labeling, and termination.

2. Fault Diagnosis & Repair

• Diagnose electrical and system faults in solar PV installations.
• Repair or replace defective electrical components.
• Troubleshoot inverter, module, wiring, earthing, and communication issues.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance to minimize system downtime.

3. Site Survey

• Conduct pre-installation site surveys.
• Assess rooftop conditions, electrical infrastructure, and installation feasibility.
• Measure roof dimensions and identify shading, obstructions, and safety risks.
• Collect technical data and prepare survey reports with photographs.

4. Testing & Commissioning

• Perform insulation resistance, continuity, polarity, voltage, and earth resistance tests.
• Commission solar PV systems as per manufacturer guidelines.
• Verify system performance before handover.

5. Safety & Compliance

• Follow all electrical safety procedures and company SOPs.
• Use appropriate PPE while working at heights and on live electrical systems.
• Ensure compliance with applicable electrical codes and safety regulations.
• Maintain a clean and safe work environment.

6. Documentation Record

• Installation progress and maintenance activities.
• Prepare service reports, inspection checklists, and commissioning records.
• Report material requirements and site observations to the Project Manager.

7. Required Qualifications

• ITI Electrician / Wireman, Diploma in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent qualification.
• Valid Wireman/Electrical License (preferred).
• Certification in Solar PV Installation is an added advantage.

8. Experience

• 1–5 years of experience in electrical installations.
• Experience in rooftop solar projects will be preferred.

9. Technical Skills

• Knowledge of AC & DC electrical systems.
• Ability to read electrical drawings and single-line diagrams (SLDs).
• Experience with solar inverters, ACDB/DCDB, and earthing systems.
• Familiarity with electrical testing instruments and multimeters.
• Understanding of solar PV system components and commissioning procedures.
