- Fabrication fitters read and understand blueprints, schematics, and other specifications to guide their work.
- Cutting and shaping metal:
- They use various tools and machinery, including saws, shears, grinders, and flame cutters, to prepare metal components.
- Welding and assembly:
- They weld, bolt, or rivet metal parts together to form completed units or subunits.
- Fitting and aligning:
- They position, align, and fit metal parts using hand tools, jacks, and other specialized equipment.
- Quality control:
- They inspect completed assemblies to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
- Maintenance and repair:
- They maintain and repair tools, equipment, and fabricated products.
- Safety compliance:
- They adhere to safety regulations and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
