Job Description

The engineer will work on a Snowflake-based analytical platform and surrounding tooling, combining data engineering and software engineering (Java, Terraform, workflow orchestration).

The primary outcomes for this role are to:

Deliver concrete improvements to data workflows, performance and reliability.

Support internal data teams (our “customers”) with high-quality help, examples and documentation.

Reduce KTLO load by systematically fixing recurring issues and simplifying operations.

You will be embedded in an existing senior team, working independently on agreed priorities and taking end-to-end ownership of problems.

Roles & Responsibilities

Key responsibilities:

Design, optimize and operate Snowflake schemas and large analytical tables for high-volume workloads.

Build, maintain and debug batch data pipelines and workflows (e.g. Airflow/dbt or similar) feeding Snowflake.

Contribute to Java-based services and tools that interact with Snowflake and the data platform (e.g. bootstrap APIs, workflow helpers).

Use Terraform (or similar IaC) to manage Snowflake objects, cloud resources and pipeline-related configuration.

Provide structured L2/L3 support for internal data and analytics teams, including performance investigations and access/bootstrap issues.

Own KTLO work: production bug fixing, incident investigation, small enhancements and hygiene work that reduces long-term operational overhead.

Improve monitoring, logging and alerting for critical data workflows and related services, and participate in incident reviews and follow-ups.

Write and maintain documentation, examples and runbooks that make the platform easier to use.

Must have:

Experience: Data Engineer, Data Platform Engineer or Backend Engineer on large-scale data/analytics platforms.

Snowflake / data warehouse expertise:

Strong SQL, including optimization of complex analytical queries.

Practical experience designing and operating large analytical tables and schemas.

Software engineering:

Professional experience with Java in backend or platform services.

Comfortable with testing, code reviews and working in CI/CD pipelines.

Workflows & orchestration:

Hands-on experience with at least one orchestration tool (e.g. Airflow, dbt, or similar).

Infrastructure as code:

Practical experience with Terraform (or equivalent) to manage cloud and/or Snowflake resources.

Operations & support:

Proven ability to debug complex production issues across data, services and infrastructure layers.

Experience providing structured support to internal teams (tickets, chat channels, possible on-call/rotations).

Soft skills:

Strong communication in English (written and spoken).

Ability to work independently within an existing codebase and team, with a focus on delivering measurable impact.

Nice to have:

Experience integrating Snowflake with cloud data lakes and table formats (Iceberg, Parquet, Delta).

Background in platform/SRE/developer productivity teams serving many internal stakeholders.

Familiarity with data governance, data catalog and access-control tooling.

Experience in large, distributed organizations with multiple stakeholder teams.
