Job Description – Senior: Digital R&D (Life Sciences / Pharma)

Team: Life sciences sector team – Digital R & D

Experience: 3-7 years

 

Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior Consultant – Digital R&D with strong experience in applying digital, data, and analytics capabilities across the pharmaceutical R&D value chain, including early discovery, translational medicine, clinical development, and R&D-to-launch processes.

The role involves collaborating with global EY teams to design, deliver, and scale digital R&D solutions that leverage clinical trial data, discovery data and enterprise R&D systems to solve diverse business problems and support business strategy.

The ideal candidate should have:

• Strong exposure to pharmaceutical R&D domains such as Discovery, Clinical Development, Regulatory, or Quality, with a good understanding of end‑to‑end R&D processes.
• Hands‑on experience in digital transformation, automation, or analytics initiatives within pharma or life sciences environments.
• Experience working with R&D data assets (clinical trial, discovery, operational, or real‑world data) and familiarity with regulated, GxP‑compliant settings.

 

Key Responsibilities

Digital R&D Analytics And Solutions Development

• Support the design and delivery of digital and data-driven solutions across the R&D lifecycle, including early discovery, translational medicine, clinical development, and launch readiness
• Work with structured and unstructured data sources such as:
  • Clinical trial data (operational and scientific)
  • Discovery and molecular data
  • Real-world data / real-world evidence
  • R&D operational and portfolio data
• Develop analytical approaches, hypotheses, and frameworks to address R&D and scientific business questions
• Perform data validation, quality checks, and documentation aligned with regulatory and compliance requirements
• Independently execute defined analytics, modelling in python/ R / SQL and digital workstreams with guidance from project leads.

 

Digital Platforms, Dashboards And Reporting

• Develop dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent, focused on R&D and clinical stakeholders
• Support automation of recurring R&D reporting and operational analytics
• Ensure outputs are accurate, user‑friendly, and aligned with decision‑making needs of scientists, clinical teams, and leadership

 

Translate Analytics to Business Recommendations

• Convert complex data and analytics outputs into clear, actionable insights for R&D decision‑making
• Highlight implications for R&D efficiency, risk, timelines, and scientific outcome
• Prepare leadership-ready slides, summaries, and recommendations

 

Client And Stakeholder Collaboration

• Work with EY global teams to scope analytics needs and refine problem statements
• Present insights to internal and client-facing teams
• Align on timelines, risks, and quality standards

 

Team Contribution 

• Mentor junior analysts on analytics, quality checks, and storytelling
• Contribute to playbooks, code libraries, and best-practice templates
• Works with senior stakeholders to deliver timely and high quality updates of project timelines, scope, and utilization of resource hours

 

Required Skills And  Experience

Experience

• 3 to 7 years of experience in Life Sciences R&D analytics, digital R&D consulting, clinical analytics, or pharma R&D operations
• Hands-on exposure to pharma R&D processes, such as:
  • Early discovery / translational research
  • Preclinical and Clinical trial execution and operations
  • R&D portfolio or program management
• Experience working with clinical trial data, real-world evidence, discovery or molecular data, or R&D operational datasets

 

Technical Skills

• Hands-on with SQL (must) and Python/R (preferred)
• Strong analytical, problem solving, and quality focused mindset
• Experience with Power BI or Tableau
• Familiarity with data pipelines, ETL processes, and enterprise data platforms (Azure, AWS, Databricks etc.) is a plus

 

Domain Knowledge

Understanding of:

• Solid understanding of the pharmaceutical R&D value chain
• Knowledge of:
  • Drug Discovery and preclinical development data
  • Clinical trial processes and data
  • R&D digital systems and data assets (AS-IS understanding)
  • Real world evidence and its role in R&D decision making
• Exposure to genomics, molecular, or discovery data is a plus

 

Soft Skills 

• Strong problem-solving and hypothesis-driven thinking
• Ability to independently convert analytics into clear business narratives
• Effective communication across time zones
• Attention to detail, quality mindset and ability to manage multiple projects 

 

Preferred (Good-to-Have)

• Experience supporting global big pharma R&D or clinical teams
• Prior experience in a consulting or global delivery environment
• Exposure to regulated environments (GxP, validation, data integrity)
