Job Summary
Synechron is seeking a dedicated Card Functional Tester to join our Quality Engineering team. In this role, you will be responsible for validating card transaction workflows, payment processes, and card lifecycle management across multiple platforms. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience in card domain testing, with the ability to design comprehensive test cases, identify issues, and collaborate with development teams for resolution. Exposure to automation tools will be an added advantage, supporting continuous improvement and high-quality delivery.

Software Requirements

• Required: JIRA, ALM, test case management tools, SQL (MySQL, Oracle, SQL Server), industry-standard defect tracking platforms, test execution tools

• Preferred: API testing tools (Postman, REST Assured), automation frameworks (Selenium, Python), cross-browser testing tools (BrowserStack)

• Experience level: 3–5 years of relevant hands-on experience in card domain testing

Overall Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and execute test cases for end-to-end card processing, transaction, and lifecycle management workflows

• Validate card issuance, activation, transaction processing, and account closure procedures

• Identify, log, and track defects, collaborating effectively with development teams to ensure timely resolution

• Support regression testing, user acceptance testing (UAT), and release sign-off activities

• Ensure compliance with industry standards, EMV, magnetic stripe, tokenization, and payment network specifications

• Support automation of test cases to improve testing efficiency and coverage

• Document test plans, test cases, defect reports, and operational procedures

• Collaborate with business analysts, product owners, and QA teams to gather requirements and ensure thorough testing coverage

Technical Skills (By Category)

• Testing Tools:

  • Essential: JIRA, ALM, SQL, defect tracking tools

  • Preferred: Postman, REST Assured, Selenium, BrowserStack, Python for automation scripts

• Programming Languages:

  • Required: SQL, Python (preferred), Java (for automation frameworks)

  • Preferred: JavaScript/TypeScript for frontend tests, Groovy scripting for automation

• Databases/Data Management:

  • SQL query writing, data validation, data reconciliation in Oracle, MySQL, SQL Server

• Cloud Technologies:

  • Basic understanding of cloud applications supporting card services (preferred)

• Frameworks and Libraries:

  • REST API, EMV standards, tokenization, cross-browser testing frameworks

• Development Tools & Methodologies:

  • Jira, ALM, Git, Jenkins, Agile/Scrum, TDD/BDD practices (JUnit, Mockito, Cucumber)

• Security Protocols:

  • Understanding of secure card transaction protocols, encryption standards, PCI DSS compliance

Experience Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in card or payment system testing in enterprise environments

• Hands-on experience in validating card issuance, transaction flows, and lifecycle management

• Proven ability to design comprehensive test cases, execute automated testing, and troubleshoot issues

• Industry experience in banking, retail payments, or fintech is preferred; alternative enterprise application testing experience acceptable

Day-to-Day Activities

• Develop and execute detailed test cases for card workflows, payment transactions, and system integrations

• Identify, report, and track defects, providing detailed analysis for resolution

• Support manual and automated testing activities across releases and deployments

• Collaborate with development, product, and QA teams to refine testing strategies and improve coverage

• Conduct regression, UAT, and performance testing, ensuring features meet quality standards

• Maintain documentation on test cases, defect logs, and test environment setup

• Support automation initiatives, script enhancement, and CI/CD pipeline integration

• Participate in sprint planning, review meetings, and continuous process improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field

• 3+ years of hands-on testing experience with card payment systems or related industries

• Certifications such as ISTQB, Certified Tester, or equivalent are advantageous

• Strong experience with SQL, testing tools, and automation frameworks

• Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills

• Effective communication skills for cross-team collaboration and stakeholder reporting
