The Role

Key Responsibilities

CICS Installation, Configuration & System Design

• Install, upgrade, and maintain CICS Transaction Server using SMP/E, including regions, RDO resources, SIT/PLT/transaction definitions, and related components.
• Design and configure CICS architectures (TOR/AOR/FOR models, region structure, pipelines, TCPIPSERVICES, web service enablement).
• Build and maintain CICS startup JCL, PROCs, DFHxxx parmlib settings, exits, and subsystem interfaces.

CICS Operational Support

• Provide day‑to‑day support for CICS regions, including startup/shutdown, monitoring, troubleshooting, and recovery.
• Manage and maintain VSAM datasets, PDSE libraries, temporary storage queues, transient data queues, and log streams.
• Support CICS‑related started tasks and ensure proper integration with z/OS services.

Security & Systems Integration

• Configure and maintain RACF profiles for CICS resources (transactions, programs, files, terminals, URIMAPs, JVM servers).
• Ensure security standards for regions, users, connections, certificates, and web endpoints.
• Support integration with DB2, MQ, Java workloads, and USS applications.

Monitoring, Metrics & Performance Tools

• Use MainView, Splunk, MXG, and z/OS tools to monitor performance, analyze metrics, and detect trends.
• Identify performance issues, perform dump analysis, and troubleshoot transaction delays, storage violations, abends, and resource contention.

Unix System Services, zFS & Java/JVM Support

• Support USS/zFS file systems for CICS web services, Java workloads, and pipeline/URIMAP resources.
• Configure, tune, and troubleshoot Java applications and JVM servers running under CICS or z/OS.
• Assist application teams in deploying and optimizing Java programs or middleware hosted in CICS environments.

Automation & Event Handling

• Implement automation for CICS operations using NetView/System Automation (SA) and OPS/MVS.
• Build automation rules for region monitoring, response messaging, failure detection, and recovery actions.

Required Qualifications

• 7–12+ years experience supporting CICS TS on z/OS.
• Hands‑on experience with:
  • CICS installation, region design, configuration, and maintenance
  • Started tasks, RACF resource classes, SMP/E
  • VSAM cluster creation/maintenance and PDSE libraries
  • USS/zFS, Java, and JVM configuration under z/OS or CICS
• Experience using monitoring tools and metric pipelines such as MainView, Splunk, and MXG.
• Strong JCL and REXX scripting skills; ability to automate tasks and streamline support processes.

Preferred / Nice to Have

• Knowledge of CICSPlex SM (CPSM) policies, WUI setup, workloads, and routing.
• Experience supporting web services (SOAP/REST) inside CICS via URIMAP/PIPELINE.
• Understanding of DB2/CICS and MQ/CICS integration patterns.
• Familiarity with OMEGAMON for CICS or other advanced monitoring tools.
• Awareness of WLM policies affecting CICS workloads.

• Excellent communication and partnership with application, infrastructure, and operations teams.
• Strong documentation, process discipline, and change management.
• Ability to work under pressure during incidents and critical releases.

• Effective deployments and reduced application‑related issues.
• Strong SLA compliance for transactions and response time.
• Reduced manual effort through automation and tooling improvements.
• Clean security and compliance posture for CICS resources.
