Containerization Specialist with AWS ECS, Kubernetes, and Security Expertise

Job Summary
Synechron is seeking an experienced Containerisation Specialist within the Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team. This role is pivotal in designing, operating, and optimizing container platforms and orchestration solutions to ensure platform stability, scalability, and resilience. The successful candidate will lead efforts in automating container workflows, enhancing security, and implementing observability standards, all while working closely with cross-functional teams to drive operational excellence and continuous improvement. This position is critical in supporting Synechron’s cloud-native initiatives and ensuring the reliability of enterprise applications.

Software Requirements

  • Required:

    • Hands-on experience with Docker and container fundamentals, including container image build pipelines and lifecycle management

    • Practical experience deploying and managing workloads on AWS ECS (EC2 and/or Fargate) in production environments

    • Linux system administration and troubleshooting skills (filesystem, networking, processes, memory)

    • Familiarity with scripting languages such as Bash or Python for automation tasks

    • Experience integrating container workflows into CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Buildkite, GitLab)

    • Working knowledge of AWS services supporting containers (ECR, ALB/NLB, IAM roles, Auto Scaling)

    • Knowledge of container security best practices, runtime hardening, and vulnerability management

    • Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, Dynatrace, Splunk, or Sumo Logic

  • Preferred:

    • Experience with Kubernetes and container orchestration (not mandatory)

    • Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation)

    • AWS networking concepts (VPC, security groups, load balancers, service discovery)

    • Exposure to ITSM tools like ServiceNow

Overall Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and operate highly available, containerized workloads on AWS ECS and Fargate.

  • Optimize container lifecycle management, including image creation, security, deployment, and monitoring.

  • Collaborate with application and platform teams to modernize workloads into container-first architectures.

  • Enhance automation of container builds, deployment, and operational workflows.

  • Establish and promote best practices for container security, including vulnerability management, least privilege, and runtime security.

  • Develop and implement observability strategies for container environments, including metrics, logs, and tracing.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve container, network, and runtime issues to maintain platform stability and performance.

  • Drive operational excellence by documenting standards, mentoring peers, and advocating automation-first approaches.

Technical Skills (By Category)

  • Container Platforms & Technologies:

    • Required: Docker fundamentals, container lifecycle management, AWS ECS (EC2/Fargate)

    • Preferred: Kubernetes (basic familiarity)

  • Programming and Scripting:

    • Required: Bash, Python, or similar scripting languages for automation and operational tooling

  • Cloud Technologies:

Experience Requirements

  • 5+ years working in container operations, DevOps, or SRE environments.

  • Proven experience managing container workloads in AWS ECS (EC2 or Fargate) in production.

  • Strong background in Linux system administration and troubleshooting.

  • Experience with secure container deployment, vulnerability management, and runtime security.

  • Exposure to cloud infrastructure, container orchestration (preferably Kubernetes), and automation pipelines.

  • Experience working in enterprise or regulated environments is a plus.

Day-to-Day Activities

  • Deploy, manage, and optimize container workloads on AWS ECS and Fargate.

  • Develop automation scripts and workflows to streamline container lifecycle activities.

  • Monitor container environments, troubleshoot issues, and improve system reliability.

  • Collaborate with platform engineers, application teams, and security teams on platform upgrades and security enhancements.

  • Conduct vulnerability scans, runtime security hardening, and compliance checks.

  • Document operational procedures, standards, and best practices.

  • Lead efforts for capacity planning, performance tuning, and incident response.

  • Promote a culture of automation, observability, and continuous learning within the team.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related discipline.

  • Proven experience in container platform operations, especially on AWS ECS (EC2/Fargate).

  • Strong knowledge of Linux system administration.

  • Certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Security, or Kubernetes (CKA/CKAD) are a plus.

  • Demonstrated experience in automation, security, and observability practices for container environments.
