Design Engineer

Job Title: HVAC Design Engineer

Job Purpose

The HVAC Design Engineer is responsible for end-to-end HVAC system design, from initial site inspection and requirement analysis to detailed engineering, CNC-ready drawings, documentation, and support for production, procurement, and new product development, ensuring solutions meet client, commercial, and operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Site Survey & Requirement Analysis

• Conduct initial site inspections and surveys to understand site conditions, constraints, and client requirements.
• Develop detailed HVAC layouts based on site measurements, architectural drawings, and client specifications.
• Validate design assumptions with on-site realities and ensure feasibility before finalization.

HVAC System Design & Engineering

• Prepare HVAC system designs for commercial and industrial applications.
• Perform heat load calculations, ventilation calculations, and equipment sizing.
• Select HVAC equipment including AHUs, FCUs, chillers, VRF systems, ducting, piping, and accessories.

Detailed Drawings & Documentation

• Prepare detailed HVAC layout drawings, GA drawings, shop drawings, and fabrication drawings.
• Prepare CNC turret / CNC punch-ready drawings for sheet metal components as per manufacturing standards.
• Ensure proper documentation, revision control, and drawing issue records.
• Maintain design documentation for future reference and audits.

Interdepartmental Coordination

• Coordinate with sales and marketing teams to understand project requirements, scope, and client expectations during pre-order and post-order stages.
• Provide technical inputs and clarifications for proposals, tenders, and client discussions.
• Forecast material requirements and coordinate with purchase/procurement teams for advance procurement of long-lead or critical materials prior to production.
• Support production teams with technical clarifications and drawing updates.

Procurement & Production Support

• Assist procurement in technical evaluation of vendors and materials.
• Identify critical materials and components requiring early procurement to avoid production delays.
• Resolve design-related manufacturing issues and suggest improvements for ease of fabrication.

New Product Development (NPD)

• Research emerging HVAC technologies, materials, and market trends.
• Participate in New Product Development (NPD) activities including concept design, prototyping, testing, and documentation.
• Develop and standardize new HVAC products or components to improve performance, cost efficiency, and manufacturability.
• Prepare technical documentation and drawings for newly developed products.

Standards, Quality & Compliance

• Ensure designs comply with ASHRAE, AHRI, IS Codes, and customer specifications.
• Support quality inspections and internal audits related to design and documentation.

Site & Commissioning Support

• Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning as required.
• Assist in resolving site-related design deviations and modifications.

Qualifications & Skills

Educational Qualification

• Diploma / Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.

Experience

• 2-4 years of experience in HVAC design, preferably in commercial HVAC manufacturing or EPC environments.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of HVAC design principles and system selection.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with CNC turret / fabrication drawings is essential.
• Knowledge of HVAC design and load calculation software.
• Working knowledge of Revit MEP / BIM is an added advantage.
• Understanding of manufacturing processes, sheet metal fabrication, and tolerances.
