Job Description

1. Lead designer – Structural Steel

Design & Engineering

• Perform conceptual as well as detailed structural analysis and design of steel structures for metro rail systems.
• Prepare detailed design calculations, drawings, and specifications for steel components.
• Design steel frameworks for stations, canopies, footbridges, and support structures.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant codes (IRC, IRS, IS, AISC, AASHTO, Eurocode and international standards.)
• Collaborate with architects and other engineers to integrate steel structures with overall project design.
• Perform seismic and wind load analysis for steel structures in urban environments.

Project Coordination

• Coordinate with civil, mechanical, and electrical teams for integrated structural solutions.
• Review shop drawings for steel fabrication and erection.
• Provide technical support during construction phase.
• Conduct site inspections to ensure compliance with design specifications.
• Resolve design and construction issues related to steel structures.

Quality & Compliance

• Ensure designs meet safety, reliability, and durability requirements for public infrastructure.
• Implement quality control procedures for steel fabrication and erection.
• Ensure designs consider maintainability and lifecycle costs.
• Prepare technical documentation and compliance reports.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in structural analysis software (MIDAS, STAAD Pro, SAP2000, ETABS, or similar)
• Strong knowledge of steel design software
• Experience with BIM software (Revit, Tekla Structures)
• Knowledge of construction methodologies for steel erection in constrained urban environments

Preferred Specialized Knowledge

• Experience with design of steel structures for vibration-sensitive environments
• Knowledge of fire protection requirements for public transportation structures
• Understanding of fatigue analysis for dynamically loaded structures
• Familiarity with value engineering and constructability reviews

Experience

• Minimum 8 years of experience in the relevant design and maximum of 10-12 years’ experience with leading a small team.
