Job Title: Tunnel Design Engineer
Overview:
We are seeking a talented Tunnel Design Engineer with a minimum of 10 years of experience, specializing in geotechnical engineering with a strong understanding of structural principles. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design and development of tunnelling projects, ensuring the integrity, safety, and functionality of underground structures. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative tunnelling solutions and infrastructure development.
Responsibilities:
1. Carry out the design and analysis of tunnelling projects, including underground structures, caverns, and associated facilities.
2. Conduct geotechnical investigations and analyses to assess ground conditions, rock mechanics, and soil properties for tunnel design and construction.
3. Develop detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for tunnel alignments, cross-sections, support systems, and lining structures.
4. Utilize advanced engineering software and modelling tools for geotechnical and structural analysis, including finite element analysis (FEA) and numerical modelling.
5. Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including geotechnical engineers, structural engineers, architects, and contractors, to optimize tunnel designs and construction methodologies.
6. Perform risk assessments and mitigation strategies related to geotechnical hazards, ground stability, and geological uncertainties in tunnelling projects.
8. Coordinate with regulatory authorities and stakeholders to obtain necessary approvals and permits for tunnelling projects, ensuring compliance with relevant codes and standards.
9. Conduct field visits and site inspections to monitor construction progress, assess site conditions, and address any design-related issues or modifications.
10. Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in tunnel engineering, contributing to the continuous improvement of design processes and methodologies.
Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related field and Master's degree in rock mechanics or tunnel engineering preferred.
2. Minimum of 7 years of experience in tunnel engineering, with a focus on geotechnical design and analysis. Tunnels in urban setting is preferred (Road/Rail/Sewage etc)
3. Strong understanding in geotechnical engineering principles, including soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and ground improvement techniques.
4. Proficiency in structural engineering concepts and analysis, with experience in designing tunnel support systems, linings, and underground structures.
5. Solid understanding of engineering software such as PLAXIS, FLAC, MIDAS GTS, SAP2000, or similar tools for geotechnical and structural analysis.
6. Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to analyze complex technical challenges in tunnelling projects.
7. Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders.
